8.4 Handlebar lock (not applicable for all types)
The handlebar lock is helpful when while pushing the tricycle as escort you wish to
control the direction of travel without constantly having to lift the front wheel by
pressing down on the push-bar to adjust the direction of travel.
Operating the handlebar lock
figure 1
figure 2
figure 3
The handlebar is locked by rotating the clamp, located on the right-hand side
above the fork when viewed in the direction of travel (see figure 1).
Remember that the handlebar can only be locked if the handlebar is in the
straight-ahead position! Rotate the clamp (in a clockwise direction) until it clicks
into place and the mark (arrow) can be seen from above (see figure 2).
Disengage the handlebar lock and release the steering action by reversing the
clamp (by rotating it in an anti-clockwise direction) until it clicks into place and
the mark (arrow) can no longer be seen from above (figure 3).
NB: Because of the considerable leverage which can be exerted through the
handlebar the lock can be destroyed in the engaged position if extreme
(excessive) force is applied.
