The drainage process normally lasts 10-30 minutes. The drainage duration depends on the volume that is to be
drained and the selected drainage procedure.

It is possible that you can suffer from slight pains when draining the fluid. This can occur
when using the low vacuum version.
In this case, clamp the drainage tube so that the fluid flow slows down or is interrupted for a
few minutes, thereby achieving an alleviation of the symptoms. A switching to gravity drai-
nage is possible by opening the white sliding clamps on the green clamping piece of the bottle.
Should you still not feel better, stop the drainage and contact your doctor or nurse.
The treating physician stipulates the fluid volumes that are to be drained off, taking a balan-
ced fluid and nutritional balance into account. It is recommended that the drainage volume
that is stipulated by the doctor is not exceeded without prior consultation with the doctor.
After draining the fluid – Placing a new dressing
❶
Clamp the drainage tube with the tube clamp until fully closed and disconnect the drain line from the valve.
Before disposing of the kit, also close all of the sliding clamps at the clamping piece on the bottle system.
❷
Put on the second pair of gloves included in the procedure pack. Pick up one glove by the wrist and put it on.
Pick up the other glove by the wrist and put it on the other hand. Both gloves fit either hand. Be careful not to
let the outside of the gloves come in contact with anything non-sterile for example clothing or skin.
❸
Remove the foam catheter pad from the pouch and place it around the catheter. The catheter should be on the
center on top of the foam pad.
❹
Curl the catheter around in a circle and place it on top of the foam pad. Be very careful not to kink the catheter.
❺
Place the gauze compress over the catheter so that it fully covers the catheter and the valve.
❻
Place the dressing: Remove the self adhesive dressing from the pouch and peel off the framed center panel.
Note: The framed center panel is on the opposite of the printed side.
Peel the dressing from the printed paper backing, exposing the adhesive surface. View the area where the dres-
sing is to be applied through the film and center the dressing over the wound. Press it down. Do not stretch the
dressing during the application. Slowly remove the remaining paper frame by peeling it off on the split section
while smoothing down the dressing edges. Once removed, smooth the entire dressing from the center toward
the edges and firmly push down the dressing.
❼
Remove your gloves.
