PREPARING THE OPENING
The following MINIMUM
• If a 30" (762mm) clearance between the cooking surface and overhead combustible
materials or metal cabinets cannot be maintained, a minimum clearance of
24"(610mm) is required and the underside of the cabinets above the cooktop must be
protected with not less than 1/4-inch-thick flame-retardant millboard covered with not
less than No. 28 MSG sheet steel, 0.015-inch-thick stainless steel, 0.024-inch-thick
aluminum, or 0.020-inch-thick copper.
• One and one-half inches (1-1/2" /38mm) minimum vertical clearance between the
cooktop bottom and any combustible surfaces.
• To ensure accuracy, it is best to make a template when cutting the opening in the
counter.
• Make sure the wall coverings, countertop and cabinets around the cooktop can
withstand heat (up to 200°F/ 94°C) generated by the cooktop.
• Wall coverings, cabinets and countertop must withstand heat up to 200°F/ 94°C.
