- When the oil level is below the mark [a], then it is necessary to add oil with a clean funnel.
6. Check the seal. Replace if damaged.
7. Insert the dipstick into the hole and screw the cap back on.
b) When to change the oil?
Carry out the first oil change after 50 hours of use; then drain every 100 hours or once a year.
c) Oil change
WARNING! Make sure all moving parts have stopped and
that the log splitter is unplugged from power source.
1. The cylinder must be in the retracted position.
2. Remove oil dipstick cap (3).
3. Place a container that can hold 5 litres under the log
splitter.
4. Unscrew the drain plug (B) and seal (A) (located under
the base of the splitter) for the oil to start to flow.
5. Allow the oil to flow out.
6. Once the oil tank is empty, insert the seal (A) and the
drain plug (B) in place.
7. Pour in 4.8L of new hydraulic oil using a clean funnel.
8. Clean the dipstick and the seal.
- Check the oil level by inserting the dipstick in the tank
- Remove the dipstick and check that the oil level is between
two marks [a] and [b] (see above)
9. Check the gasket. Replace if damaged.
10. Tighten thoroughly the oil dipstick cap (3).
Attention! To prevent damage to the seal and the thread of
the cylinder head, the screw must not be over-tightened.
11. Regularly check the oil level; and refill when necessary.
Remarks:
1- Check oil level regularly with dipstick.
Low oil levels can damage the oil pump.
2- The oil should be completely changed once a year.
3- Before oil change, make sure moving parts are stopped and the log splitter is unplugged.
4- Make sure that no dirt or debris finds its way into the oil tank.
5- Following an oil change, activate the log splitter a few times without load (without splitting wood).
6- Collect used oil and dispose of responsibly in accordance with local environmental legislation.
It is prohibited to dump waste oil into the environment or to mix it with other waste.
- Recommended oil
Following hydraulic oils or equivalent are recommend for the log splitter's hydraulic system:
Aral Vitam GF22 , BP Energol HLP-HM 22, Mobil DTE 11, SHELL Tellus 22
Do not use other types of oil! The use of any other type of oil will adversely affect the operation of
the hydraulic cylinder.
- Hydraulic system
The hydraulic system is a closed system with oil tank, oil pump and control valve.
Do not alter or tamper with the factory installed system.
Check the oil level regularly.
Too low oil level will likely damage the oil pump.
Check the hydraulic and screw connections regularly for leaks, tighten them if necessary.
