User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 REMOTE CONNECT/DISCONNECT SYSTEM (RCD®) When safer means of access are unavailable or infeasible, workers needing to get to overhead work spaces frequently climb ladders or structural members, or climb out of personnel lifts. In those cases, unless a personal fall arrest system (PFAS) is already anchored in place where needed, the worker often climbs without protection against the hazard of falling.

User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 PURPOSE OF THE RCD The RCD System is a patent pending, modular set of tools used for remotely: ● Installing a portable PFAS to protect the “first person up” and the “last person down.” It enables workers to have continuous safety at heights by greatly extending the reach in order to remotely install an anchorage connector and connect a portable PFAS to it.
  • Page 4 User Instructions  MSA Remote Connect/Disconnect System P/N R622333 PERSONAL FALL ARREST SYSTEM (PFAS) An assembly of components used to arrest a person in a fall from a working height. A system must always include a full body harness and connecting means between the harness and an anchorage or anchorage connector.

The RCD System is versatile, allowing use with a multitude of MSA fall protection products. While primarily designed for use with the Dyna-Lock® Backpacker Web Self-Retracting Lanyard, the RCD system can also be used with MSA Vertical Lifelines and other MSA Lanyard/Harness systems. Full user instructns for any of these MSA fall protection systems are supplied with the respective product.

Other equipment, clothing and disabled worker must not be brought into contact with the tool during rescue operation. USING RCD SYSTEM TO INSTALL A MSA PERSONAL FALL ARREST SYSTEM The main use of the RCD System is to install overhead anchorage connectors and make snaphook connections to them when installing portable PFAS. Before the RCD System became available, it was often necessary for workers to go aloft to rig a PFAS before such a system could be used.
