f The Parking Brake Latch locks the Brake Pedal. To apply the
Parking Brake, depress the Brake Pedal, flip up the Parking
Brake Latch © . To disengage the Parking Brake, depress the
Brake Pedal and push down the latch.

When this pedal is fully depressed the Hydrostatic Control Lever
© will return to ''NEUTRAL'' (М) and the forward or reverse mo-
OPERATION
PRE-STARTING INSPECTION
1: - Check oil in engine crankcase. Add oil as required to main-
tain proper level. See Engine Instructions.
2. Check fuel supply. Use unleaded gasoline or leaded (if
unleaded is not available).
3.
Check air filter and precleaner for excessive dirt. Clean as
-
required.
4.
Make visual checK with regards to safety precautions,
obstructions, lubrication, and maintenance.

THE ENGINE
Use the following procedure to start the engine.
1. -Place
the
Hydrostatic
Control
Lever in. the >
-*PARK/START"' position, shown in Figure 2.
. NOTE: THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE. THE ENGINE WILL NOT
START UNEESS THE CONTROL LEVER IS-PULLED ALL THE WAY
TO THE REAR OF THE ''PARK/START'" SLOT.

FOOT OFF PEDAL DURING NORMAL OPERATION
OR WHEN
MOVING THE HYDROSTATIC CONTROL LEVER. The pedal is an
alternate control for slowing down or stopping. Use of the pedal
and Hydrostatic Control Lever simultaneously can result in
misadjusted hydrostatic linkage.

Connects the hydraulic lift to front/center or rear rock shaft. See
page 16 and Figure 26 for operation.
OPERATING THE TRACTOR — CONTROL LEVER
When
the
Hydrostatic
Control
Lever
is placed
in the
"PARK/START"' position as shown in Figure 2, a pin engages in
the teeth on the reduction gear inside the rear axle housing. This
mechanically locks the rear wheels and prevents them from turn-
ing. When the Hydrostatic Control Lever is moved into the
"NEUTRAL''
(М) position, Figure 2, the pin is disengaged;
however, the hydrostatic transmission will not allow the rear
wheels to turn provided there is sufficient oil in the transmission,
the free-wheeling valves are not depressed, and linkage properly
adjusted.
To move the tractor forward and to increase forward travel
speed, gradually push the Hydrostatic Control Lever forward in
the slot from the ''NEUTRAL'' (М) position, shown in Figure 2.
To stop or slow down, gradually pull the Hydrostatic Control
'Lever toward the ''NEUTRAL'' (М) position or depress the
Neutralizer Pedal.

NOTE: THE LINES NEXT TO THE FORWARD SLOT DO NOT IN-
DICATE A GIVEN SPEED AND SERVE AS GUIDE LINES ONLY.
. To move the tractor backward and increase reverse travel speed,
gradually pull the Hydrostatic Control
Lever back in the
- . *REVERSE"' (А). slot from the ''NEUTRAL" (М) position, shown
in Figure 2. To stop or slow down,
gradually push the
Hydrostatic Control Lever toward the '"NEUTRAL'' (N).position
or depress Neutralizer Pedal slowly with foot.

. To "stop.the tractor, return the Hydrostatic бой Lever to
-"YNEUTRAL'" (М) either by hand or with the Neutralizer, Pedal
and then step on the Brake Pedal to stop tractor from rolling.
DO NOT MOVE HYDROSTATIC CONTROL LEVER FROM
"PARK/START'' SLOT UNLESS ENGINE IS RUNNING.

Because of
the
dynamic
braking
characteristics. 'of | the
hydrostatic transmission *the Hydrostatic Control 'Lever is ex-
tremely sensitive to the slightest movement when in.the forward
or reverse slots. Always move lever slowly when in these slots.
É Whén the tractor is stopped on a hill or grade and the control in
'NEUTRAL', a slight amount of tractor movement is considered
normal.
if wheel brakes are not applied after, neutralizing
transmission speed control.
