This section contains steps which guide you through the repair or replacement of certain
parts.
The measuring head spring determines the amount of pressure the feed wheel exerts on
the tape as it passes through the tape channel. Too little pressure causes the tape to slip
and too much pressure causes the tape to tear. The pressure setting can be adjusted by
moving the spring to the other setting. The hook end of the spring attaches to a slot on
the base plate. To adjust the spring, see Figure M and follow the steps below.
1. Turn the power switch off and unplug the power cord.
2. Lift the back of the measuring head cover and a prop will fall to keep the head
elevated.
3. View the machine from the left side. The measuring head spring hooks on to a notch
on the left side of the machine.
4. Move the measuring head spring to the desired setting with pliers or a cleaning
hook. The notch closest to the rear of the machine is the one which provides the
maximum amount of pressure. The notch closest to the front of the machine
provides the minimum amount of pressure.
5. Lower the measuring head cover.
