on the cable by attaching the RIDER 3.0 to the cable. The "UP"
arrow should be pointing upwards. Start by pulling the RIDER 3.0
slowly and then with a jerk on the flex arm of the set. The RIDER
3.0 should glide upwards (in the direction of the arrow) without any
resistance. The RIDER 3.0 should block when pulled downwards
(against the direction of the arrow). Before entering the via ferrata,
check the slip mark on the screw heads of the RIDER [4.2]. These
must not be twisted towards each other. If these are no longer
aligned, do not enter a via ferrata and contact SYKLOTEC.
Never tie up the legs [5]. Always attach the RIDER 3.0 and the
safety carabiner to the cable [6]. Never climb when only the RIDER
3.0 is attached [7]. Move the RIDER 3.0 freely along the cable with
you as you climb. When moving along using the cable for support,
guide the RIDER 3.0 and the SKYSAFE carabiner along the cable
between your hands [8]. To continue moving the RIDER 3.0
forward, do not grab the device but guide it using the flex arm.
Gentle pull on the flex arm and the RIDER 3.0 can then be pushed
upwards. Make sure you have a safe foothold before reattaching
the carabiners and reattach first (!) the SKYSAFE carabiner and
then the RIDER 3.0 [9]. This will ensure that you are always
attached to the safety cable. When reattaching, always make sure
that the two straps are not twisted.
IMPORTANT: to ensure the rider 3.0 Can function correctly, the
skysafe carabiner must be attached to the cable underneath the
RIDER 3.0.
Always maintain enough distance from the other people in your
climbing group so that there is no danger to others in the event of a
fall [10]. When resting, use a separate secure attachment, e.g.
sling with carabiner. Use a girth hitch to secure the sling to the tie-
in loop on your harness and to the carabiner attached to the cable.
[11]. Now you can put weight on the connection in a slow and
controlled manner. Never rest on just one flex arm. Do not hang on
the RIDER 3.0 in between sections (e.g. to take photos or have a
rest) [12]. Inexperienced users or sections testing the limits of
users' ability should be additionally secured with climbing ropes
[13]. For use in descents, make sure that the RIDER 3.0 is attached
in the same way as for the ascent. Do not turn the device upside
down (viewing window always on top, straps underneath). When
descending, climb approx. 1 m down and then guide the RIDER 3.0
gently down by opening it slightly [14]. Pay attention to the fall
factor. In difficult sections where a free fall is possible, the RIDER
3.0 must not be taken below the hip! Due to various factors (type of
cable, slope angle of the relevant sections, fall height, weight of
climber), no universally valid statements can be made as to the fall
distance the RIDER 3.0 will cover until it completely stops the fall.
The distance could be just a few centimetres but it can also be up
to 2 metres. Even when using the RIDER 3.0 via ferrata set, try to
avoid any falls on the via ferrata!
The RIDER 3.0 is approved for use on cables between 12 and 16
mm thick. On the via ferrata, the gauge provided can be used to
