8 Servicing and maintenance

8.1 Lift

The lift is used to vertically transport the workpiece.
Basically, it is a gear housing with rack and pinion. The unit is
driven by a synchronic geared motor.
If there is a power failure in the unit, the lift with theworkpiece
can be pulled downwards by hand.
Maintenance note:
Apply a thin coating of nonresinous heat-resistant bearing
grease (local hardware store) on the rack, if required.

8.2 Firing plynth with firing plynth holder

The firing plynth is mounted vertically resilient over the firing
socket holder in the rack. It serves the purpose to insulate the
firing chamber on the bottom and simultaneously is used as
object carrier.
The firing plynth carrier with O-ring seals the firing chamber
during vacuum firing.
Maintenance note:
The seal of the firing plynth carrier with the O-ring must be kept
clean and must be inspected for possible damage regularly.

8.3 Vacuum pump

The Multimat C can be operated with any powerful vacuum
pump (power uptake max. 2.5 A), preferably with the Dentsply
vacuum pump. The setup is explained under section 4 "Setup
and first operation". The pump connection tube must not be
longer than 2 meters.
Maintenance note:
Observe the operating manual of the pump for maintenance
purposes.
Important: Change oil every 3 months.
8.4 Replacing the firing muffle (trained electicians only)
Caution !
The heat insulation of the firing chamber in this
instrument consists of ceramic fibers. After extended
use of ceramic fibers at temperatures above 900 °C, silica
substances (cristobalite) may form. In certain cases, e.g. when
replacing the firing muffle, dust exposure may occur, which may
cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and respiratory organs.
Proceed as follows when replacing the firing muffle:
• All personnel must wear long sleeved clothing, headwear,
eye protection and gloves.
• Attach dust exhaustion to the dust source; if not possible,
equip personnel with dust mask FFP3.
• After completion of the tasks, possible adhering dust must
be first washed off the unprotected skin with cold water.
Afterwards wash with warm water and soap.
• Wash working clothes separately.
Warning !
Disconnect the unit from main power before
opening the housing.
Disassembly:
1. Observe dust protection measures !
2. Disconnect from main power.
3. Screw off cover and disconnect protective conductor.
4. Take off screws, cover and insulating disk.
5. Disconnect thermal element from both rear connecting bolts.
6. Disconnect heating wire ends of the muffle from both front
connecting bolts.
7. First remove the thermal element together with the bar, and
then the terminal insulation.
8. Remove muffler from the insulating insert; be careful if the
furnace is hot and touch only the ends of the heating wire.
