Your tens 1000 s is a battery-powered device with two adjusta-
DE
ble output channels. The TENS unit generates electrical impulses.
You can use the unit's controls to set and vary the amplitude,
EN
duration and modulation of these impulses. The TENS unit's
controls are very straightforward to use, while the safety cover
stops your settings being modified unintentionally. The intensity
FR
level is adjustable according to the needs of patients. Before using,
please read all the instructions in this user manual carefully and
IT
keep it safe for future reference.
What is pain?
ES
Pain is the body's own early warning system. Feeling pain is
important, as it indicates an abnormal condition within the body
and serves as a warning to us before any further damage or injury
NL
occurs. However, long-term, persistent pains – often known as
chronic pain – serve no obvious useful purpose once a diagnosis
PL
has been made. TENS was developed to soothe or eliminate certain
types of chronic and acute pain.
RU
We differentiate between two types of pain:
• Acute pain
as a chief symptom can often help the doctor with diagnosis and the
TR
acute pain has a protective function for the patient.
• Chronic pain
AR
can often become part of the illness in itself. A patient suffering from
chronic pain will often suffer for years and experiences changes in
his/her personality structure.
General pain analysis
1. Heller, pointed or stabbing pain
Apply frequencies < 50 Hz to < 20 Hz
Select pulse width as high as possible > 150 μsec
2. Dull, throbbing pain
Apply frequencies > 50 Hz (usually)
Pulse width as wide as possible (throbbing and/or pain must
not be intensified), which means usually small pulse widths
< 120 μS
If possible, no muscle tissue should be stimulated, as otherwise
this might cause aching muscles!
EXPLANATION OF TENS
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-
invasive, drug free method of controlling pain. TENS uses tiny
electrical impulses sent through the skin to nerves to modify your
pain perception. TENS does not cure any physiological problem;
it only helps control the pain. TENS does not work for everyone;
however, in most patients it is effective in reducing or eliminating the
pain, allowing for a return to normal activity.
