Please note: If necessary, release the rear silencer and the heat
protection shield for the exhaust pipe in order to access the openings
for attaching the tow bar by the rear side members.
- 8 -
› Slide the tow bar support frame (A) by the side members into the openings in the vehicle's
cover panel and position it such that the bolt axes are approximately in the centre of the
side-member fastening openings.
› Loosely screw the support frame to the vehicle chassis using the four M10 fastening bolts
(B). Pull the tow bar back.
› Check that the tow bar support frame is positioned correctly, and tighten the bolts to
55 Nm + 90° (see detail) in the following order (position of the bolts relative to the direction
of travel):
1. Rear right,
2. Front right,
3. Rear left,
4. Front left.
› Two people are required to carry out this step.
Caution: New fastening bolts need to be used if the tow bar is removed
again and refitted.
- 9, 10 -
› Check that the ball hitch (C) is correctly inserted into the mounting recess in the tow bar
support frame. Lock and then unlock the ball hitch using the key (D).
› Remove the ball hitch from the mounting recess and fit the protective cap (E) onto the
towball.
› Fit the cover cap (F) into the mounting recess in the tow bar support frame.
- 11 -
› Check whether the ball hitch is in the "ready" position (see user instructions). If it is not,
adjust the ball hitch so that it is in the "ready" position before storing it in the storage bag.
› Place the ball hitch in the bag (H), and use the securing strap (included with the bag) to
secure it to the luggage compartment floor using the metal lashing eye.
Please note: Before storing the ball hitch in the bag, we recommend
placing the ball hitch in a suitable plastic bag to prevent the inside of
the storage bag from getting dirty. This will also prevent dirt from
remaining on the ball hitch's clamping mechanism.
Now fit the electrical wiring for the tow bar to the vehicle (see the fitting in-
structions for the tow bar's electrical wiring).
Once the electrical wiring has been fitted, refit all the components that were removed earlier
and tighten the connections to their specified tightening torques.
