Switch to °C or °F (fig. III)
Select the temperature unit (°C or °F) by using
the °C/°F switch [21].
Emissivity
The emissivity refers to the ability of objects to emit
energy.
Most of the organic materials as well as painted
and oxidised surfaces have an emissivity of 0.95
(pre-set for the device).
Temperature measurements on metallic bright or
polished surfaces produce inaccurate values. To
compensate this effect, the surface to be measured
can be covered with adhesive tape or with matt
black paint. Wait until the adhesive tape has the
same temperature as the material below. Determine
the temperature of the adhesive tape or the painted
surface.

Measuring point and measuring dis-
tance (fig. II)
Keep in mind that the measuring point becomes the
larger the longer the distance to the instrument is.
Consequently the measured area becomes larger.
The ratio of the measuring distance to the measuring
point is illustrated in fig. II.
The focus for the device is 914 mm (36 ").

Temperature measurement

Hold the device by its handle [1] and aim it on
the surface to be measured.
Press and hold the actuator [4] to switch on and
test the device.
The LCD [4] illuminates if the battery is OK.
Exchange the battery if the display does not
illuminate.
Release the actuator [4]. The message
HOLD [10] is displayed on the LCD indicating
that the data are being held on the display.
Press the UP key [19] in the HOLD mode to
switch on an off the laser.
Press the down key [17] to switch on and off
the backlighting.
If no lock mode is active, the device switches off
automatically approx. 7 seconds after releasing
the actuator [4].
Note
Keep in mind when measuring:
Hold the device by the handle provided and aim
it on the object surface to be measured. The ther-
mometer compensates automatically for temperature
deviations from the ambient temperature.
Keep in mind that it will take up to 30 minutes to
adjust to great temperature differences if high tem-
peratures have been measured. This is a result of the
cooling process necessary for the sensor.
Finding a temperature deviation
To find a spot with a temperature deviation, aim
the thermometer on a spot within the area of
interest.
Scan the area with an up and down motion until
you locate this spot.
