Power supply and start-up
Observe the mains voltage: The voltage
and frequency of the power source must
comply with the specifications on the
machine's identifi cation plate.
In North America, only Festool machines
with the voltage specifi cations 120 V/60
Hz may be used.
7.1
On/Off switch
– Press the unlocking lever (1.5) for the saw
unit.
– Press the On/Off switch (1.4) for switching on the
machine. For safety reasons, it is impossible to
lock the machine in the On position.
– Release the On/Off switch again to switch off the
machine.

Operation
Risk of accidents
• Before starting work, ensure that the saw blade
cannot touch the sliding fence or other machine
parts.
• Do not cross your hands in front of the saw unit;
never hold the workpiece with your left hand to
the right of the saw blade and vice versa.
• Do not overload the machine, causing it to shut
down.
• Observe the specifi ed working position.
8.1
Speed control
You can regulate the rotational speed steplessly
between 2700 and 5200 rpm using the adjusting
wheel (1.3). This enables you to optimise the cut-
ting speed to suit the respective material.
Recommended position of the adjusting wheel:
Wood
Plastic
Fibre board
Aluminium plates

Sawing workpieces
In unfavourable cases, the separated
workpiece parts can be caught by the
rotating saw blade and thrown back when
sawing strips. This effect occurs espe-
cially with hard woods and is dependent
on the profi le of the strip.

• Always ensure that no persons or objects that
could be injured or damaged are located behind
the machine.
• If this effect occurs when sawing a strip, put
an additional, fl at 25 to 30 mm thick softwood
strip (e.g. roofi ng board) between the sliding
fence and the strip, and saw through both strips
together. This prevents or signifi cantly reduces
the throw-back effect.
• As an alternative to the additional softwood strip,
a sliding fence with a pre-installed wooden strip
(491886) is also available.
• Hold the workpiece fi rmly and lower the saw
unit very slowly.
Working method
– Place the workpiece (5.5) fl ush against a sliding
fence (5.4) and hold it in that position with one
hand.
Note: When sawing inner angles, it may be
necessary to move the redundant sliding fence
outwards.
– Press the unlocking lever (5.1) for the saw unit.
This opens the pivot guard (5.2) halfway.
– Switch on the machine.
– Always saw the workpiece at a steady rate of
advance. The rollers (5.3) of the pivot guard
slide over the workpiece, which causes the pivot
guard to open further.
– Raise the saw unit again after the cut and switch
the machine off.

To ensure constant air circulation, always keep the
cooling-air openings in the motor housing clean
and free of blockages.

When sawing acute angles or aluminium
(in particular aluminium profi les), there is
a danger of the workpiece being caught by
the saw blade and thrown backwards.
Service and maintenance
Always pull the mains plug out of the
socket before any type of work on the
machine.
All maintenance and repair work which
requires the motor housing to be opened,
must only be carried out by an authorised
service workshop.
Damaged safety devices and parts should
be repaired or replaced by an authorised
service centre unless otherwise specifi ed
in the operating instructions. Damaged
switches must be replaced by an author-
ised service centre.
