• The machine should be connected to an earthed outlet
socket. Check that the mains voltage corresponds with
that stated on the rating plate on the machine.
• Be on your guard for electrical shocks. Avoid having body
contact with lightning-conductors/metal in the ground.
Do not use an extension cord while it is rolled up to avoid

overheating.
Personal safety
• Wear personal protective equipment. See instructions
under the heading Personal protective equipment.
• Never allow children or other persons not trained in the
use of the machine to use or service it.
• Overexposure to vibration can lead to circulatory damage
or nerve damage in people who have impaired circulation.
Contact your doctor if you experience symptoms of over-
exposure to vibration. Such symptoms include numbness,
loss of feeling, tingling, pricking, pain, loss of strength,
changes in skin colour or condition. These symptoms
normally appear in the fi ngers, hands or wrists. The risk
increases at low temperatures.

• Fit the handle in the handle stand-off on the machine.
Before starting
• The engine is delivered without oil. Fill with engine oil to the
correct level. Refer to Technical Data for recommendations
on which oil type to use (S400B).

• Set the throttle control to full throttle (Image 2).
• When starting from cold: Set the choke control in the
choke position (Image 3).
• Grip the starter handle, slowly pull out the cord with your
right hand until you feel some resistance (the starter pawls
grip), now quickly and powerfully pull the cord. Never twist
the starter cord around your hand.
Set the choke control in the RUN position.

• Push the bar in towards the handle in order to start the
drive of the mower blades. Release the bar in order to
stop the drive of the mower blades.
General
Scarifi cation is carried out to renovate and aerate a lawn
that has been damaged by moss, weeds etc. This treatment
should be carried out in the beginning of the season when the
grass is growing well.
• Mow the lawn. Clear it thoroughly to avoid damages to
the mower blades.
Drive once in one direction and the second time in a per-

pendicular direction to achieve the best result.

Hearing protection
Gloves must be worn when required, for example when
fi tting, inspecting or cleaning cutting attachments.
Always wear heavy, long pants. Do not wear shorts,
sandals or go barefoot.
Wear sturdy, non-slip boots or shoes.
Generally clothes should be close-fi tting without restricting
your freedom of movement.
Fit control to raise/lower the cutting equipment
Plug power supply to machine.
Hold the starter throttle catch in and push the throttle
control towards the handle in order to start the engine
(Image 4).
Push the bar in towards the handle in order to start the
drive of the mower blades. Release the bar in order to
stop the drive of the mower blades.
S400B - The engine stops when you set the throttle control
to STOP.
S400E - Release the throttle control in order to stop the
engine.
Lower the handle to lower the cutting equipment (Image
5).
The working depth is adjusted with the adjustment screw
and should be set to approx. 4-5 mm. Adjust the setting
after a few hours' drive.
Raise the cutting equipment when moving the machine.
