13 Appendix 2 – Trouble shooting
A great feature of the MDI dome is that it is very easy to use, nevertheless some problems could arise at the
installation or configuration stage, or in use.
PROBLEM
No image from dome
Dome cannot be controlled • Incorrect dome address
Dome operation is erratic
Noise in video image
Distorted video on twisted
pair receiver output
14 Maintenance
Cleaning should be restricted to the external surfaces of the product. Under normal operating conditions and
provided the dome has been correctly installed, it is unlikely that dirt will penetrate the inner mechanism.
Use of aggressive cleaning agents or solvents may damage the surface of the dome severely impairing image
quality. Cleaning of outer surfaces should only be attempted with a clean soft cloth, lightly moistened with a
weak solution of soapy water. Once all surface soiling has been removed, lightly dry the outer surfaces with a
fresh clean soft cloth. Do not rub or polish the dome cover. Scuffing the outer surface will greatly reduce image
quality.
PROBABLE CAUSE
• No power supplied to the dome
• Video cabling not correct
• Telemetry cabling not correct
• Wrong
telemetry
selected
• Telemetry cabling not correctly
terminated
• Video output type set incorrectly
• Polarity of video signal incorrect

REMEDY
• Check power source and cabling. Green
LED in dome base indicates presence of
power.
• Connect a monitor directly to the BNC of
the pigtail cable to verify camera is
operational
• Check
correspond to the input number of the
controller (see Appendix 1).
protocol
• Check continuity
polarity of the telemetry connections is
correct.
• Check settings for SW1 1, 2, 3 are
correct for the telemetry type.
• Ensure only the last dome on telemetry
bus has SW1 switches 1 & 2 set ON.
• Check switch SW1- 5 is set for the
correct type of video output.
ON – For coaxial cabling
OFF – For twisted pair transmission
• Reverse connections to the twisted-pair
receiver
