Introduction
The new ROXXY® Smart Control BL range of speed controllers of-
fers an integral telemetry function via the digital S.BUS2 interface. This
enables the ROXXY® Smart Control to keep you constantly informed
about the current state of your power system: current, battery capacity,
rotational speed, voltage and temperature are monitored, and the data
are passed to the pilot.
A standard feature of the new ROXXY® Smart Control speed con-
troller is the digital Futaba S.BUS2 interface, for easy connection to
Futaba telemetry systems. All control signals, and also the telem-
etry data generated by all the integral sensors, are passed to the
receiver's S.BUS2 socket via a single connecting lead.
Simply install, connect and program the speed controller in the usual
way, register it as a sensor at the transmitter, and the telemetry data
appear on the transmitter's screen - that's all there is to it.
Highlights:
• Optional programming card for clear and easy
adjustment of functions.
• Option of setting the controller for use with inrunner or
outrunner motors; LED indicator.
• Timing mode for matching the number of motor poles.
• Switchable brake, with user-variable braking power.
• High clock frequency for ultra-fine control, e.g. when torque-
rolling
• Integral temperature monitor protects against thermal damage.
• The Smart Control series features are the usual protective and
filter functions, including POR (power-on guard) and RX-filter.
• Designed expressly for the ROXXY
suitable for other brushless motors, since these controllers
feature virtually no restriction on the number of motor poles.
• User-variable soft-start
• Integral sensors: current, capacity, rotational speed, voltage and
temperature
• Digital S.BUS2 interface
• Naturally the speed controller can also be connected to
normal PWM receiver outputs; the S.BUS interface is capable of
processing both signals. In this case there is no telemetry
function.
Read right through these instructions before connecting and
using the unit for the first time.

1. Connections, special features
Prepare the red (positive) wire and the black (negative) wire for con-
necting to the flight battery by fitting matching connectors. Insulate
each individual soldered joint with a piece of heat-shrink sleeve.
Connect the three high-current wires to the wires attached to the
motor. If the motor spins in the wrong direction, swap over any two
wires. Connect the receiver lead to the receiver's channel 3 socket
or S.BUS2 socket.

2.1 Features, protective functions
POR: start-up guard: prevents the motor starting unexpectedly
PCO: low-voltage cut-off: the motor is switched off in good time when
the battery is almost flat. This reserves sufficient energy for
the model's control system, and avoids deep-discharging the
battery (optionally for NC / NiMH or LiPo battery)
Rx-Filter: switches the controller off if the transmitter signal fails
or is invalid.
TP: thermal protection
