Intended Purpose
M.4s comfort is a brace with a frame that is
intended to reinforce and stabilise the knee
joint using limitation of extension and flexion.
Indications
All indications that require physiological
stabilisation and reinforcement of the knee joint
and/or stress relief of the joint in at least two
planes, such as:
• Following rupture of the cruciate ligament
(conservative / post-operative)
• Following rupture of the collateral ligament
(conservative / post-operative)
• For knee instability
• Following surgical intervention on the
meniscus
• Following cartilage surgery
Contraindications
None known at present.
Risks / Side Effects
If the aids are too tight, this can cause local
pressure sores or constriction of blood vessels or
nerves. Therefore you should consult the doctor
treating you before you use it if the following
circumstances apply to you:
• Condition or injury of the skin in the area of
application, particularly with infectious
indications (excessive heat, swelling or
reddening)
• Paraesthesia and circulatory disorders (e.g. as
seen in diabetes, varicose veins)
• Lymph drainage disorders – equally, swelling
of soft tissue adjacent to the area of
application which is not related to a condition
When wearing snug-fitting aids, this can result
in localised skin inflammation or irritation that
is due to mechanical irritation of the skin
(particularly in conjunction with sweating) or
due to the composition of the material.
Intended patient groups
Healthcare professionals should provide care to
the adults and children, applying the available
information on the measurements/sizes and
necessary functions/indications and in line with
the information provided by the manufacturer,
and acting under their own responsibility.
Setting the flexion / extension limits
Extension limit wedge, gold:
5° Hypext. , 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
Flexion limit wedge, silver:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°, 120°
Can be immobilised at:
0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
For immobilising the orthosis first insert the
extension wedge and then the corresponding
flexion wedge. The medial (inside) and the
lateral (outside) wedge settings must always be
the same.
1 0° extension and 90° flexion wedges are
pre-installed in your knee brace
as standard (In the UK only 10° extension
wedges fitted, remainder included as spare
parts).
2 In order to change the wedges, press the joint
cover on the rear side (see profile) outwards.
3. You can change the wedges by removing the
tweezers from the joint cover and pulling the
wedges forwards (extension) or backwards
(flexion) out of the joint using the tweezers.
The wedges are accordingly labelled with
„FLEX" or „EXT" and the corresponding
degree. The wedges may also be
distinguished by the colour. Extension
wedges are golden, flexion wedges are silver.
Push the new wedge from the front side
(extension) or from the back (flexion) into the
joint, so the markings „UP" on the joint and
the wedge are matched accordingly.
Upon proper locking you will hear a click
sound.
4. Move the joints of the orthosis to check the
position of the wedges. Put the tweezers back
into the mounting and attach the joint covers
by hooking the two noses of the joint cover
into the front side of the joint and then
pushing the cover onto the joint. The cover is
firmly attached if you hear a click sound.
Important notes
Only change the extension and flexion limits on
