5.2.2 Verification of fit
Checking the fit in the frontal plane
Required tools: 170W2 tool set, 170W13 aluminium clamping jaws, 170W11 frontal contour
>
bending tool
1) Check the fit of the base tube on the leg contour.
2) Mount the aluminium clamping jaws on a vice.
3) Adapt the base tube in the vice. Use the frontal contour bending tool for this purpose.
NOTICE! Avoid crushing the base tube by excessive shaping.
Checking the fit of the support tubes
Support tubes that have too small a diameter may result in medial pressure areas. Support tubes
with too large a diameter could obstruct sitting, especially in the thigh area.
In either case, the patient's individual wishes should be taken into account while checking the fit
of the support tubes.
Required tools: 170W13 aluminium clamping jaws, 170W12* pad holder bending tool,
>
170W18 bending iron
1) Loosen the screw on the strap guide loop with tube connection by two turns.
2) Push the screw in until a distinct clicking is heard. Use an Allen key to push it in.
3) Unscrew the strap guide loop with tube connection.
4) Remove the support tube. Loosen the two screws in order to do so.
5) Mount the aluminium clamping jaws on a vice.
6) Secure the support tube. Use the pad holder bending tool in order to do so (see fig. 12).
7) NOTICE! Avoid crushing the support tube by excessive clamping.
8) Correct the shape of the support tubes. Use the bending iron to do so.
9) Install the support tubes. In order to do so, secure the screws with Loctite® 241 and tighten
them alternately until the tensioning wedge is flush with no gaps (tightening torque 4 Nm).
Checking the fit in the sagittal plane
The fit of the orthosis in the sagittal plane is of crucial importance for the locking and unlocking
function of the orthotic knee joint.
