Important: be sparing with all adhesives, as it is very easy to add unnecessary
weight in this way. Excessive weight always has an adverse effect on a model
aircraft's performance and handling in the air.
Assembling the PYRIT
Don't start building the model until you have examined the components and studied
the individual stages of construction, so that you have a clear understanding how it
goes together. If you are not satisfied with any component, take it back to your
supplier (model shop) before carrying out any work on it.
The wing
Locate the openings for the servo extension leads, the retaining dowel and the wing
retainer screw, and remove the film over them using the tip of a hot soldering iron.
The next step is to install the aileron servos: slit the covering film about 7 mm from
the ribs, sub-spar and main spar. Cut into the corners at an angle of 45° , and iron the
film down onto the ribs, sub-spar and main spar.
Insert the horns into the underside of the ailerons, align them carefully, and run the
point of a scalpel round the base to slit the covering film. Remove the film under the
horns, and glue them in place using cyano or UHU hart (cellulose cement).
Each aileron is attached to the wing using a full-length strip of hinge tape applied on
the top surface, centred on the hinge axis; hold the ailerons at the "full-down" position
when applying the hinge tape. Fold the control surface up and over onto the wing top
surface, then apply three additional strips of tape (approx. 50 mm long) on the
underside to secure the hinge; fit these strips at either end and the centre of the
ailerons. Ensure that the adhesive layer of the two tape strips meets in the centre.
Fit each aileron servo in a piece of heat-shrink sleeve, shrink the sleeve round the
case, then cut the material away to clear the output shaft.
Remove the plug from the aileron extension lead, Order No. 3935.32, and thread the
lead through the cable duct in the wing from the servo end. Re-fit the contacts into
the plug, taking care to maintain correct polarity. Use a servo socket to check that the
colour coding is correct.
Connect the servo to the extension lead, and secure the connection with a heat-
shrink sleeve, a retaining clip, Order No. 3503, or a drop of cyano.
Locate the servo output arms included in the kit and cut them down as shown. Set
the servos to centre from the transmitter, then fit the output arms on the output
shafts, offset towards the leading edge by two splines. Fit the output arm retaining
screws.
