* Item 8 is only included in kit no. 3842921 (ZF 280 A
/
ZF 280 IV).
1.
Align the engine with the propeller shaft according to
standard procedure.
2.
Mount the parts of the toothed wheel (1) using the
existing screw (A1) and nut (A2) as illustrated. 1.
The side marked «propeller side» shall be facing the
propeller shaft flange.
3.
Fit the speed sensor (2) in bracket (3) with flange
screws (4) and locknuts (5). Please refer to figure 2.

Fit the bracket (3) with washers (6) and flange
screws (7) according to the applicable reverser figu-
re.
Important! Check that the speed sensor is at
right angles to the toothed wheel.
Adjust the bracket so that the speed sensor
has a maximum distance of 0.5 mm from the
toothed wheel. Use a feeler gauge.
Rotate the toothed wheel a few turns to ensure
that it goes free of the sensor.
5.
Clean the control valve (B) carefully and remove the
cover (C) according to the applicable reverser figure.
6.
Only applies to ZF 286 A / ZF 286 IV:
Pull out plug (K), using an M5 screw.
Only applies to ZF 280 A / ZF 280 IV:
Fit the adapter (8) with associated screw (D) accor-
ding to the applicable reverser figure.

Fit the valve housing (9) with associated screw (E)
according to the applicable reverser figure.
8.
Fit the valve cone (10) into the valve housing (9).
Torque 27 Nm (19.9 lbf ft).
Important! Carefully tighten the valve cone
clamp nut (F). Torque 5 Nm (3.7 lbf ft).
9.
Connect the transmission wiring connector (G) mar-
ked "trolling" to the valve cone (10) according to the
figure. 3 and applicable reverser figure.
10.
Connect the transmission wiring connector (H) to the
speed sensor (2) according to the figure. 3 and appli-
cable reverser figure.
11.
Instruction for installation and activation of function
Volvo Penta Lowspeed and/or Volvo Penta Trolling:
Important! With twin installations, the procedu-
re must be performed individually for each dri-
veline PCU (Powertrain Control Unit).
Note! The instructions in items A and B should only
be done when the function is retrofitted. Instructions
A and B shall not be done when the function is inclu-
ded in the order of a new engine and reversing gear.
A.
Go into the «VODIA website» and click on the link:
«conversion kits».
Order an accessory kit to activate the function Volvo
Penta Lowspeed and/or Volvo Penta Trolling from
the VODIA Web Site (order two for a twin installa-
tion).
Order a conversion kit with new function settings for
the reverser (order two for a twin installation).

Once the order has been made, click on the link
«Control unit programming».
Download and program the PCU (MID 187) with the
ordered kit, using VODIA. All kits are downloaded
and programmed as a packet (one packet for each
PCU).
C.
When the kit has been installed and any optional or
conversion kits have been programmed, an auto-con-
figuration of the EVC system must be done. Please
refer to the procedure in the EVC installation manual.
