7 Handling the Cool-
ant/Lubricant (C/L)

turer!

regulations for C/L!

C/L analysis

For legal and technical reasons, the cool-
ant/lubricant must be analysed weekly.
▷ Observe country-specific laws and

▷ Check the following coolant/lubricant proper-
ties weekly:
▪ Concentration
▪ pH-value
▪ Nitrite content
The analysis is performed with test strips and
refractometer. The test strips are easy to use and
allow the determination of the pH value and the
nitrite content. The concentration of the C/L is
measured with the refractometer.
▷ Remove the blank from the holder.
▷ Mount the splash guard.
▷ Place a clean, flat receptacle in the centre of the
interior below the splash guard.
▷ Shut the door.

▷ On the display of the milling machine in the
Service menu
, activate the coolant pump for 10
seconds.
▷ Open the door and remove the receptacle.
▷ Measure the pH and nitrite value:
▪ Immerse the reaction zone of the pH and
nitrite measuring strip into the C/L.
▪ Shake off excess fluid.
▪ After one minute, compare the reaction zone
with the colour scale and read off the meas-
ured value.
▷ Measure the concentration:
▪ Remove C/L with the pipette and apply it to the
measuring surface (glass area).
▪ Close the lid of the refractometer.
The measuring surface must be completely
wetted with liquid.
▪ Hold the refractometer against a light source
and look through the ocular (eyepiece).
The reference values and the information on
measures in case of exceeding or falling below the
reference values can be found on an information
sheet in the delivery scope of the supply unit.
