Make sure that the shackle bolt is the right length so that the bolt can be fully screwed into
the shackle's eye. Make sure that the shackle bolt has been correctly screwed into the
shackle's eye, i.e. tightened by hand and then tightened further using a spanner or pliers,
so that the bolt shroud rests tight against the shackle's eye.
An incorrect fit may arise due to a bent bolt, too tight a thread or offset shackle eyes.
Never use the shackle under these circumstances.
Never replace a shackle bolt except with one of the same size, type and manufacturer, in
order not to reduce the working load limit (WLL).
Ensure that the shackle bears the load correctly, i.e. flush with the centre axis of the shackle
body. Avoid bending loads, unstable loads or overloads.
