USING THE ÖSSUR LINER
Cleaning
Prior to using the Össur Liner for the first time, it should be carefully washed and dried 2-3 times. This reduces the
initially high adhesion of the material which can result in skin reactions on sensitive skin.
Locking pin retainer hole
The pin adapter is directly integrated into all Össur Liners. You can screw the pin into the retainer (Figs. 2 and 3),
tighten it to 2 Nm, and secure it with Loctite.
Be extremely careful in securing all components associated with the Össur Liner attachment system to ensure the
wearer's safety. Then check all parts of the locking device system for a tight and secure fit. Thoroughly brief the
wearer on the proper use of the locking device system.
Giving the Össur Liner a tailored f it
• Tailoring the silicone liner must be done with particular care. The final tailored fit must not exhibit any corners,
edges, or folds since these may result in tears in the material and/or skin problems. To decrease the surface
tension, the cut must produce a scalloped edge (Fig. 4).
• To prevent runs and other damage, the trimmed edge must be glued to the textile cover using the silicone
adhesive supplied with the Össur Liners.
• The matrix must not be trimmed. The trim line on a lower leg unit should lie no less than 10 cm above the edge
area of the socket.
• When using Össur Liners for thigh prostheses, ensure a precise cut along the socket's edge so that the
trimmed edge does not extend into the crotch area.
NOTE: None of the liners are to be rolled back over the edge of the socket, since the liner's adhesion to the skin
would no longer be assured and its functioning would thus be compromised
Fitting a silicone adhesion socket
The distal area of the formed liner cup may NOT be changed on the positive mould, since otherwise the liner cup
may not fit fully into the socket. This could result in the cup breaking or tearing out! The cup could also break
if the prosthesis is donned with the pin improperly secured in the retainer and the wearer begins to walk on it right
away. For this reason, ensure that the wearer is fully and thoroughly briefed about the proper handling of the
silicone liner and the pin-retaining mechanism. With regard to fitting the socket, ensure that all parts are firmly and
securely seated, since excessive play could result in increased wear. Point out to the wearer that any changes
require IMMEDIATE inspection of the prosthesis in your company.
Putting the Össur Liner on
The heavy-duty textile cover and the unique anti-friction coating ensure that the Össur Liner simply slides on.
Additional donning aids such as talcum powder or an alcohol spray are no longer necessary (Fig. 5).
Turn the Össur Liner inside out (Fig. 6) and hold the liner as shown (Fig. 7). Now hold this flat surface to the end of
the residual limb and push the Össur Liner carefully over the residual limb without causing folds (Fig. 8). Ensure
that the pin receptacle is seated as close as possible to the centre of the residual limb (Fig. 9) and the pin is
oriented axially to the residual limb. Check for any trapped air. If there is trapped air, please massage it out. If folds
occurred when putting the liner on, please put the liner on once more.
