5.3. Simple machine
The machine has a drive and a guard.
The drive supplies the information on
the rotary movements to the PSR-
RSM4 via a rotary pulse encoder.
When the protective cover is closed,
the operating mode is switched to
production ("I1") and the drive may
only turn at the maximum speed pro-
grammed. If the drive exceeds the
maximum speed, contacts 13-14 and
23-24 open and the drive is stopped
via the emergency stop circuit (Stop
Cat. 0).
When the protective cover is open,
the PSR-RSM4 monitors the drive for
downtime. If the drive starts up unin-
tentionally due to a fault in a control
current circuit, contacts 13-14 and
23-24 open and the drive is stopped
immediately (Stop Cat. 0).
When the drive is turning, contacts 33-34 and 43-44 are used to prevent the protective cover from being
opened. Only when the drive comes to a standstill do contacts 33-34 and 43-44 open and the magnet of
the guard locking opens the protective cover.
PSR-RSM4 starts automatically after overspeed with bridge on S33-S35, and manually via a button on
S33-S34.
Suitable up to safety category 3, SIL3.
5.4. Simple machine with a monitored drive
The machine has a drive, a guard, an
enable switch and an operating
mode selector switch.
The basic functions correspond to
"5.3. Simple machine".
When the cover is closed, overspeed
is not monitored (Muting).
When the cover is open – depending
on the selected input – either only
downtime is monitored (enable
switch not actuated, "I2" and "I3"
without power) or the speeds
parameterized at "I2" or "I3".
PSR-RSM4 starts automatically after
overspeed with bridge on S33-S35,
and manually via a button on S33-
S34.

functions correspond to "5.3. Simple machine".
In addition to the drive monitoring, there is monitoring of the drive shaft.
Suitable up to safety category 4*, SIL3.
* Safety category 4 is possible if an inspection is carried out no later than after 24 hours of machine still-
stand to detect sensor errors.
