1. Short description

Safety relay PSR-RSM4 can be used in safety
circuits in accordance with DIN EN 60204-1 /
VDE 0113 part 1. Depending on the external wiring,
safety category 4 is the maximum that can be at-
tained. The module fulfills the requirements of SIL3
in acc. with IEC 61508.
The conditions of the following standards are
fulfilled if the protective equipment is activated or
a function test (Proof Test) performed after the
particular period of use.

• incremental encoders with two signal paths
(A, B) and their negated signals
(A, B)
The module has four positively driven N/O contacts
with Stop Category 0 in acc. with DIN EN 60204-1/
VDE 0113 part 1. The supply voltage is 24 V DC.
The maximum limiting continuous current is 5 A.
Safety relay PSR-RSM4 is configured to match
your application with the aid of configuration
software PSR-CONF-WIN (Order No. 2981554) via
the front RJ 45 interface.

2. Safety notes:

• Observe the electrotechnical safety
regulations and those of the trade
association!
• Ignoring the safety regulations can lead to
death, serious injury or cause considerable
damage!
• The device may only be started up,
assembled, modified or retrofitted by an
authorized electrician.
• Operation in an enclosed control cabinet
(in acc. with EN 61508-6:2001, Tab.01).
• Before starting work, disconnect the device
from the power supply!
• In emergency stop applications, a higher
level control unit must ensure that the ma-
chine cannot start up again automatically!

3. Function

The device works with an operating voltage of 24 V DC. After applying the operating voltage to terminals
A1 and A2, the electronics (at standstill) checks that at least one proximity switch is supplying a signal to
IN1 or IN2 or the encoder is supplying a signal. If this is the case, all output relays – taking into account
terminals S33, S34, S35 – switch to operating position. N/O contacts 13-14, 23-24 (emergency off) and
33-34, 43-44 (guard locking) are closed, message outputs MO1 (emergency off) and MO2 (guard locking)
supply 24 V DC. Output FO is in a high resistance state.
Outputs 33-34 and 43-44 (guard locking) remain active in their switching state as long as no change of
signal greater than the parameterized downtime frequency is generated at the inputs (IN1 and IN2 or at
the encoder). Otherwise outputs 33-34 and 43-44 drop back to idle position and message output MO2
goes to high resistance. Output FO is in a high resistance state.
Fig. 1
Outputs 13-14 and 23-24 (emergency off) remain active in their switching state as long as the paramete-
rized and preset desired speed is not exceeded at the inputs (IN1 and IN2 or at the encoder). Otherwise
outputs 13-14 and 23-24 drop back to idle position and message output MO1 goes to high resistance.
Output FO is in a high resistance state.
If an initiator or encoder fault is detected, all the output relays switch off, the LED "Power" flashes and fault
output FO supplies 24 V.
Message outputs MO1 and MO2, and fault output FO can be inverted using the software
PSR-CONF-WIN.

.
• During operation, parts of the electric
switchgear carry high voltages!
• Danger! During operation, the protective
covers must not be removed from the
electric switchgear!
• The device must always be replaced after
the first malfunction!
• Repairs to the device, especially those
involving opening the housing, may only be
carried out by the manufacturer or by a
person authorized by the manufacturer.
Otherwise the manufacturer's guarantee
automatically expires!
• Keep the operating instructions!
