GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1.1.
Safety
This meter complies with the specifications of safety standard EN 61010
(IEC 1010-1) concerning electronic measuring instruments with an overvoltage
category (CAT I) and pollution rating 2.
This manual contains information and warnings, which must be followed to ensure
safe operation as well as to maintain the meter in a safe condition.
1.1.1. Preliminary safety instructions
• This instrument is recommended to be used by a suitably trained and competent
person.
• When using the IX 3131B meter, the user must observe all normal safety rules
concerning :
• Full compliance with safety standards can be guaranteed only if used with the
supplied leads. If necessary, they must be replaced by ones of same model. The
measuring leads must be in good working conditions.
• Line voltages : AC 100 / 120 / 220 / 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz are available in IX 3131B.
A protective T 125 mA fuse is used in AC 100 / 120 V line voltage.
A protective T 63 mA fuse is used in AC 220 / 240 V line voltage.
1.1.2. Safety instructions during use
• Never exceed the protection limit values indicated on the front panel : 5 V with
respect to earth.
• When the multimeter is linked to measurement circuits, do not touch unused
terminals.
• When measuring in-circuit components, first de-energize the circuits before
connecting to the test leads.
• This meter has been designed to be used in all safety in following conditions :
indoor use, altitude < 2000 m, operating temperature 0° C to + 40° C at 70 %
R.H., pollution degree 2.
1.1.3. Safety symbols
II - 26
- Protection against the dangers of electric current
- Protection of the meter against misuse.
Refer to operating manual
displayed on the LCD :
The CPU of the meter can self-detect if its 70mA/250V fuse is either open or
damaged. In this case, the LCD will display the symbol « FUSE » and an
audible beep will sounds continuously, warning the user to replace the old
fuse to maintain the accuracy of measurement. While replacing the fuse, the
power of the meter must be completely shut off.
