Accutom-2
Instruction Manual
Let the cut-off wheel cut its way a little into the specimen before reading
out the actual pressure P
)P = P
-P
is suitable.

2
The cutting now takes place automatically so that the Accutom can be
left.
Only if the cross section of the specimen varies greatly, or if cutting is done
over a longer distance (30-40 mm) may it be necessary to change P
adjust the pull from the springs (fig. 2.1).
The size )P equals P
1
before the cutting, and P
)P indicates whether the values for FEED, speed of the cut-off wheel, have
been set correctly, as well as if the cut-off wheel and feeding of cooling
agent are correct.
)P is the expression for the force which affects the cut-off wheel.
If the value is high it means that the cut-off wheel does not manage to cut
itself free. Therefore, the cut-off wheel is exposed to a higher pressure and
it may bend, which would result in a poorer cutting quality.
Because of the friction a higher pressure will also mean more generation of
heat.
The following )P values can be recommended:
Very plane parallel cutting (< 2') with very fine surface quality.
Good plane parallel cutting (< 1E) and acceptable surface quality, i.e.
"normal" cutting.
It should be considered to change the cutting parameters, as this range will
normally give a poor result.
The cutting parameters should be changed: rotating/swivelling cutting,
higher cutting speed, lower FEED, softer cut-off wheel, coarser grains in the
cut-off wheel.
)P is increased by 0.1 if the diamond cut-off wheel is used for very ductile
materials (sintered carbides, metals) or if Al
metals with hard phases.
If P
, i.e. the pressure of the brake-circuit during the cutting, moves towards
2
0, the table is not moving. I.e. the pressure from the springs rests on the
cut-off wheel, however, without any cutting. This is because the cut-off
wheel does not cut itself free during the cutting. Therefore, one has the
choice of cleaning the cut-off wheel often (see section 7.3), or to change to
a softer binding.
) P may change during the cutting, especially if the specimen has a very
varying cross section, or if the cutting is done over a length of 30-40 mm. In
such cases, therefore, it may be an advantage to check )P by reading out
P
