MAINTENANCE WHEN THE ENGINE IS LEFT IDLE
If the vehicle/equipment to which the engine
is fitted remains inactive, certain mainte-
nance operations must be carried out to en-
sure the engine remains in full working
order.
If the engine is not used for short periods of
time, carry out the following interventions:
1- Make sure the electric contacts are
working properly and, if necessary, protect
them with an anti-oxidant spray.
– Check the charge of the battery and the
liquid level.
– If necessary, carry out the scheduled
maintenance work (See "Engine mainte-
nance").
ENGINE PROTECTIVE TREATMENT
Follow the procedure below.
1- Check the engine oil and coolant level.
2 - Fill the service tank with a mixture made
up of 10% protective oil (Castrol Safecoat
DW30X, Rustilo 181, Rustilo DWX31) and
90% fuel.
Important
This operation can be carried out using
an additional tank fitted with couplings
connecting it to the engine fuel supply
circuit.
3 - Disconnect all the mechanical parts and
auxiliary applications from the engine as they
could be damaged by running it at no-load.
4 - Start the engine and run it at minimum
speed for 5 minutes.
5 - Bring the engine to 1500÷1800 rpm for
15 minutes until the operating temperature
(70÷80°C) is reached.
English
Important
It is advisable to start the engine bring-
ing it to the operating temperature
(70÷80°C) at least once per month. The
engine must be started once per month if
it is installed for emergency purposes.
If the engine is left idle for prolonged peri-
ods, carry out the engine protective treat-
ment to guarantee its efficiency for 6 months
and to avoid continuous control and mainte-
nance interventions. If the engine is not
used for a further period of time, check the
need to repeat the protective treatment for
other 6 months (See "Engine protective
treatment").
6 - Turn off the engine and remove the igni-
tion key.
7 - Let the engine cool down adequately to
avoid being burnt.
8 - Protect the electric contacts with an anti-
oxidant spray.
9 - Protect the engine with waxes and/or a
synthetic resin anti-oxidant spray.
10- Disconnect the terminals of the battery.
11- Fill up the fuel tank.
12- Loosen the transmission belt to guaran-
tee it a longer life (See "How to adjust the
tension of the driving belt")
13- Make sure the engine is sheltered from
weather agents.
