Instructions for use Orthocryl
1. Use
Orthocryl
®
Orthodontic Acrylic is a cold-cure resin used in
the production of orthopedic appliances.
Optimum stability when the spray-on (salt and pepper) tech-
nique is applied. Also suitable for the doughing technique.
2. Composition
Monomer
= Methyl Methacrylate „MMA" (liquid)
Polymer
= Polymethyl Methacrylate „PMMA" (powder)

3. Safety Instructions

See safety data sheets that are supplied with every initial
order, or request them at any time.
4. Application
Plaster models should be immersed in warm water for
10 – 15 minutes before applying the resin. This prevents air
bubbles from emerging from dried plaster models that can
cause the resin to lift from the model, or penetrate the resin.
In order to achieve smooth, silky matt, polished basal sur-
faces without discolouration or plaster inclusions, we recom-
mend soaking the model in water and then coating with an
even layer of the special Orthocryl
REF 162-800-00.

separating medium,
Applying the Orthocryl
®
After soaking, carefully blow the model dry.
Pour the separating medium directly from the bottle onto
the moist model and spread evenly over the surface using
a paintbrush.
Stand the model onto its back (tuberosities) so that any
excess fluid may drain away.
Carefully blow separation fluid residues or droplets away
from the screw and wire retention after approx. 30
seconds have elapsed.
Commence immediately with the acrylic build-up using the
spray-on (salt and pepper) technique (A) or the doughing
technique (B).
A: Spray-on (salt and pepper) technique
Always start with the powder first, then the liquid, alter-
nating directly onto the prepared model with a gentle pen-
dulum movement.
Important: Only use as much liquid as the powder can
absorb. The resin should not be too wet to prevent any risk
of slumping. Before processing, lightly spray the appliance
with powder. This should assure an accurate fit.
B: Doughing technique
Mix the resin in a ratio of 2.5 parts powder to 1 part liquid
in a silicone mixing bowl. The well-spatulated mix should be
allowed to stand for 5-7 minutes in the covered bowl. Time
may be shorter at higher room temperatures. The resin
dough is now ready for application.
