Updating Binaries on an Existing System Installation

LSI Logic provides RPMs that contains binaries compatible with the Red
Hat 9 based and errata kernels for i686 processors. The driver RPM must be
applied after the kernel (base or errata) is installed.
For example, to update the system to the 2.4.20-9 SMP i686 kernel and
then update the Fusion-MPT driver that is bundled to the 2.05.00 version,
Apply the kernel rpm
1
# rpm –Uvh kernel-smp-2.4.20-9.i686.rpm
Apply the driver rpm
2
# rpm –Uvh mptlinux-redhat-2.05.00-1.i686.rpm
Be aware that the binaries are specific to the i686 kernels and will not
link with non-i686 kernels, e.g. systems with Athlon processors will
have the Athlon kernel installed, not the i686 kernel.

Adding Source to an Existing System Installation

Follow these instructions to add the Fusion-MPT Linux drivers to an
existing Linux system. The Linux kernel source tree must be available.
Display the Makefile to identify your kernel version. To do so, type:
1
$ more /usr/src/linux/Makefile
For example, if the file contains:
VERSION = 2
PATCHLEVEL = 4
SUBLEVEL = 7
EXTRAVERSION = -10
