I. INTRODUCTION
The Sundström Safety SR 905 Remote Filter Holder is NISOH approved for use in combination with
the SR 900 Half mask Air-purifying Respirator (APR) and the breathing hose SR 951 or SR 952.
The remote filter holder is to be equipped with filters, chemical cartridges or filter/cartridges combination.
The air is inhaled through the filters/cartridges and the breathing hose to the half mask respirator. The
combination provides the user with respiratory protection. The half mask respirator and the breathing
hose are purchased separately.
Before use, read these instructions and those for the half mask respirator and the breathing hose.
The combination should only be used and maintained by persons who understand the instructions
contained within.
The SR 905 remote filter holder has been tested and approved by NIOSH to provide respiratory protec-
tion as required in 42 CFR part 84.
This manual is divided into eight sections of equal importance. It provides the user with the basic infor-
mation to properly inspect, wear, maintain and care for the Sundström remote filter holder.
This manual contains only a portion of a complete respirator program. A well-designed respirator program
also includes fit testing, proper documentation and active management by the local safety professional.
All regulations and recommendations found in EPA Standards; American National Standards Institutes
(ANSI) Standard Z88.2; and all state, provincial and local regulations must be included in a complete
program.
Before occupational use of this respirator a written respiratory protection program must be implement
meeting all the local government requirements. In the United States employers must comply with OSHA
29 CFR 1910.134 which includes medical evaluation, training, and fit testing.
You must identify all potential respiratory hazards, and the concentrations of the contaminants,
before a competent person can determine that the Sundström remote filter holder in combina-
tion with half mask respirator and breathing hose, equipped with appropriate cartridges or
filters, provides the proper respiratory protection.
