DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION

Foreseen use
The machines are designed to dispense beverages only, which are prepared by
mixing various ingredients with water (by infusion in the case of espresso coffee).
For this purpose, only use ingredients that the producer states as suitable
for automatic dispensing in open containers. The beverage dispensed must
be consumed immediately and in no case should they be kept for later
consumption.
NOZZLE SUPPORT
Moda machines are equipped with a double nozzle support for each beverage
(Fig. 5.1, pos. 1) (except hot water), so as to allow the delivery of either one
cup (Fig. 5.2) (positioned at the centre of the cup station) or two separate
cups (Fig. 5.3), placed one beside the other.
The nozzle support can also be adjusted to adapt height to various cup sizes
or types.
You can adjust the height of the nozzle support by raising or lowering it at
different preset levels, using the grips provided (Fig. 5.4).
With the liquid collecting tray (Fig. 5.5), it is also possible to dispense the bever-
age into a large volume container (Fig. 5.6); the machine can detect whether
the tray has been removed or not, and if it is, the machine will guide the user
by providing information and requiring confirmation on the touch screen.
INSTANT BEVERAGES
According to the type of beverage requested, one of the following processes
activates.
-
If present, the whipper motor activates (fig.5.7)
-
The solenoid valve on the boiler (fig.5.8) is activated to load the pro-
grammed quantity of water in the whipper motor. The temperature of
this water can also be controlled and adjusted through a mixing solenoid
valve (fig.5.9) that mixes the water being dispensed with mains network
water; this mixing is controlled through the machine management soft-
ware, selecting the percentage for mixing. It is recommended to check
temperatures to find the desired percentage.
– The pump that dispenses the quantity of programmed water is activated
and is controlled by an appropriate electronic device (volumetric counter)
-
The instant powder gear motor activates the spiral (fig.5.10) to pour the
programmed quantity of powder into the whipper motor (some recipes
may include dispensing of more than one product, also into the same
whipper motor).
-
Once the programmed quantities of water and powder are dispensed, the
whipper motor deactivates after a time T set in programming.
ESPRESSO COFFEE
This process takes place only in models fitted with a variable chamber es-
presso group and timed grinding (Fig. 5.11) (ground coffee dispensed into
the group without mechanical dosing).
Grinding
-
Select a beverage including espresso, the grinding starts for the time
programmed by the operator in the specific doses (Fig. 5.12).
-
The ground coffee falls directly into the infusion cup in the coffee group
(already positioned under the coffee chute) (Fig. 5.13)
Dispensing group
-
The group rotating gear motor activates to place the group in the dispens-
ing position, inserting the piston (Fig. 5.14).
Pressing
-
The coffee pump is activated and the solenoid valve that drives the upper
piston opens, the hydraulic thrust (programmable through adjustment
of thrust pressure) brings the piston into the infusion group, therefore
applying the desired amount of pressure on the coffee dose (Fig. 5.15).
Once compression concludes the loading valve closes.
Pre-infusion (if programmed)
-
Upon conclusion of the pressing phase the machine starts pre-infusion.
The coffee solenoid valve opens until the programmed quantity of water
is dispensed, then the coffee solenoid valve closes.
Once pre-infusion is concluded, the machine checks the coffee pressing
and possible opens the solenoid valve again to correct it, opening water
loading until the proper pressing is reached (See the "Pressing" phase).
Infusion
-
Once the coffee compression phase is concluded, the coffee solenoid valve
opens and dispenses the programmed quantity controlled by an electronic
device (volumetric meter).
Final pressing
-
Once dispensing is concluded the coffee solenoid valve is deactivated,
the water loading valve activates (for a programmed time) to to lower
the upper piston once more, pressing the coffee dose, drying it further.
Any water produced during the final pressing phase is expelled through
the 3rd passage (drain) of the coffee solenoid valve.
Drain
-
Once final pressing is concluded the pressure present in the upper piston
is discharged (the loading solenoid valve closes, and the drainage solenoid
valve opens), to make the piston retract completely.
Return
-
Once the piston has retracted (Fig. 5.16-pos 1) the coffee group gear
motor activates once again to place the group in the standby position,
ready for a new cycle to begin.
-
During the movement the used coffee dose is also expelled (Fig. 5.16-pos 2).
STEAM LANCE (Optional)
Moda machines can be equipped with a steam lance.
The steam option can be selected through the touch screen, and it is the
Start or Stop type (the client decides whether to start or stop delivery).
The steam lance (Fig. 5.17, pos. 1) is off-centred with respect to the cup
station and the machine will guide the user by providing information and
requiring confirmation on the touch screen.
HOT WATER LANCE
The Moda machines are equipped with hot water spray.
The hot water option can be selected through the touch screen, and it is the
Start or Stop type (the client decides whether to start or stop dispensing).
The hot water lance (Fig. 5.17, pos. 2) is off-centred with respect to the cup
station and the machine will guide the user by providing information and
requiring confirmation on the touch screen.

ACCESSOIRES

Moda machines can be paired with several accessory units to vary their
performance and complete the equipment:
The assembly kits are supplied with installation and testing instructions to
ensure safe operation of the machine.
WARNING
Should non-approved kits be used, the manufacturer cannot guarantee
compliance with the safety standards, in particular for alive components.
The manufacturer disclaims all liability and warranties in connection with the
use of non-approved components.
Installation and testing operations must be performed only by
qualified personnel with specific knowledge of the operation of the
vending machine, both in terms of electrical safety and hygiene and
health regulations.
FRESH MILK MODULE (Optional)
The Moda machine can be paired with a fresh milk module, with or without
a refrigerating unit for milk storage.
With this additional module, the machine can add hot or cold fresh milk to
beverages requiring it.
This module can be matched to the machine, preferrably on the left side.
Refer to the instructions accompanying the module for directions on how to
install and use it.
PAYMENT SYSTEM MODULE (Optional)
The Moda machine can be paired with a module for the installation and use
of payment systems.
It can be installed either to the left or the right side of the machine and in
addition to other modules.
Refer to the instructions accompanying the module for directions on how
to install and use it.
CUP WARMER MODULE (Optional)
The Mode machine can be paired with a cup warmer module to store and
warm cups to be used to contain the beverage delivered.
It can be installed either to the left or the right side of the machine and in
addition to other modules.
Refer to the instructions accompanying the module for directions on how to
install and use it.
Provision for connection
The machine versions designed with provision for connection with the fol-
lowing modules come with the following ports at the back of the machine:
-
Electrical/data connection with payment system modules (Fig. 5.18-A). For
access to the connector, unscrew the screw and remove the safety guard.
-
Water supply return pipe from milk modules (Fig. 5.18-B).
-
Water supply of milk modules (Fig. 5.18-C).
-
Electrical/data connection with milk modules (Fig. 5.18-D). For access to
the connector, unscrew the screw and remove the safety guard.
N.B. For machine versions without this provision, follow the machine set-up
instruction procedures included in the Moda Additional Modules manual.
