3. Seat aligners on the patient's teeth and check for soft tissue
impingement. Trim the aligners as needed. Polish the aligners
after trimming.
4. Complete any attachment placement and perform any necessary
interproximal reduction (IPR) procedures.
5. Review the SureSmile® Aligner Patient Instructions with the
patient and go over the following points:
• Each aligner is engraved with the first four letters of patient's
first name. An "U" or an "L" denotes whether the aligner is for
the upper or lower arch, followed by another number indicating
the treatment stage.
• Aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours daily. Each set of
aligners should be replaced after approximately 2 weeks of use
(i.e., about 300 hours per aligner).
6. Dispense the next sets of aligners. Make sure you distribute
enough aligners to last until the next appointment.
7. Provide the patient with both storage cases. One case is for the
current set of aligners; the other case is for the previous set just
worn.
8. At each appointment, check teeth for tight interproximal
contacts at the appropriate aligner stage and check the fit of the
aligners.
9. If the patient needs additional aligners, you may need to take a
new scan.
10. Recommend that the patient wears retainers after treatment.
Daily Care and Maintenance of Aligners
Retainer Brite® products are recommended to clean SureSmile®
aligners safely and effectively. Retainer Brite® product samples are
provided with each set of aligners to assist patient with cleaning
and hygiene.
1. Patients should clean their aligners before each insertion.
2. Patients should NOT use toothpaste or soak aligners in
mouthwash, as this can scratch and dull the plastic, adversely
affecting the aligner's clarity.
3. Patients should follow the specific directions for use provided
with each Retainer Brite® product.
4. Patients should never put Retainer Brite® Cleaning Tablets or
tablet solution in their mouth.
