Warning
1. The rod is an accessory used to reach a point located at a
height. The M53 is a connector which has a bracket for fixing
on the rod. Using both together, a belaying support or a bloc-
for® type lifeline can be connected from a distance. This
device can only be used by one person equipped with a fall
arrest harness (EN 361) and a fall arrest system (EN 363).
2. Before use, it is essential that users are trained in the use of
this device and that they have read the manual in detail and
comply with its instructions. The user's manual must be sup-
plied and kept with every system or component.
3. The anchorage point should preferably be above the user.
4. Never use a connector if there are any doubts concerning its
safety. It is recommended that a visual check is carried out
before each use. Return any connector which is damaged
and/or does not operate to Tractel or to the distributor.
5. This device must be inspected annually by a competent per-
son (Tractel S.A.S. or a repairer approved by Tractel). The
lifetime of this device is 10 years.
6. Tractel accepts no responsibility for the consequences of any
modification of the connector, or any use, storage or mainte-
nance carried out differently from that shown in figure 4.
7. Caution: If the connector has been subject to a fall, it must be
destroyed and all the attachments must be checked by
Tractel S.A.S. or by a competent person.
8. The connectors are suitable for use on an open air site and
for a temperature range of -35°C to +60°C.
9. The instructions for attaching components together to create
a fall arrest system must be followed in accordance with
standard EN 363.
10. During use, the adjustment and attachment elements must
be checked. Check also that the connector is protected
against any hazards (sharp edges, friction, sources of heat,
twisting, etc).
11. Important: If you are responsible for assigning this equipment
to an employee or similar person, please ensure that you
comply with the applicable Health and Safety at Work
Regulations.

Install the M53 rod connector on the threaded end of the
TRACTEL rod or on a rod with the same thread characteristics.
Fit an EN 362 connector in the M53 connector eye to link it to an
EN 353.2, EN 360 or EN 355 fall arrester.
Unfold the rod to a length suitable for the height of the anchora-
ge point to be reached.
Before and during use, you must consider how any necessary
rescue operation could be efficiently and safely carried out.
Position the M53 connector facing the anchorage point and
engage it in the eye of the anchorage point by simply pulling on
the cord for opening it from a distance.

Pull the cord to open the safety catch from a distance.
Lift the rod upwards to remove the M53 connector from the
eye of the anchorage point.
Then release the cord and fold the rod.
