14. CAUTION - This machine is for dry indoor use
only and should not be used or stored outdoors in
wet conditions.
15. DO NOT use where hazardous dust is present.
16. DO NOT use in an explosive atmosphere.
17. DO NOT pick up or use near flammable or
combustible fluids, hazardous dusts or vapours.
18. CAUTION - If it is suspected that there is
hazardous dust or flammable materials stop
cleaning the area immediately and consult your
superior.
19. DO NOT use to clean up any burning or lighted
materials such as cigarettes, matches, ashes or
other combustible objects.
20. DO NOT put any object into openings. DO NOT
use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust,
debris and anything that may reduce airflow.
21. DO NOT cover the machine when in use.
22. Keep hair, loose clothing, hands, feet and all other
parts of the body away from openings and moving
parts.
23. DO NOT use if it has been damaged, left outdoors
or dropped in water.
24. DO NOT run the machine dry, as this could
damage the floor surface or the machine itself.
25. Never use excessive foaming or highly corrosive
cleaning solutions.
26. Do not operate the machine with a damaged
supply lead or plug, or after the machine
malfunctions or is damaged in any way. Contact
an authorised Service Agent for repair or
adjustment.
27. Only replace the supply cord with the type
specified in the instruction manual.
28. This machine should always be connected to a
fully earthed power supply of the right voltage and
frequency.
29. DO NOT leave machine running unattended.
30. Do not leave the machine connected to the
electricity supply when not in use, always remove
the plug from the socket-outlet.
31. Switch off the machine before removing the plug.
32. When unplugging, pull the plug, not the supply
cord.
33. The machine shall be disconnected from its power
source when not in use and before commencing
cleaning of the machine or maintenance and when
replacing parts or accessories, by removing the
plug from the socket-outlet.
34. DO NOT pull or carry by the supply cord. DO NOT
use cord as a handle, close door on cord or pull
cord around sharp edges or corners.
35. WARNING: Keep the supply cord clear of moving
parts.
36. DO NOT kink or twist the supply cord and keep
cord away from heated surfaces.
37. DO NOT operate switches or touch the mains plug
with wet hands as this may cause electric shock.
38. The power supply cord plus any extension leads
should not exceed 30 metres in total. The cross
section of an extension cable wiring must be at
least 2.5mm².

Fitting the brushes
Always ensure machine is unplugged before fitting or
removing parts.
• Release the two locking pins securing the top cover
and raise the cover to rest against the handle.
• Disconnect the two hoses from the brush cowl.
• Tip the cowl forward to reveal the brush spindles
(Fig.1).
• Remove the brush retaining clips from the spindle
ends, and slide the brush on to the spindle engaging
the narrow slot with the drive nib and refit the
retaining clips.
• Close the brush cowl and reconnect the two hoses.
• Close the top cover and re-engage the locking pins.
Controls
The operating switches are located on the top of the
machine.
1 - Switch, vacuum motor
Used to switch vacuum motor ON and OFF.
2 - Switch, brush motor
Used to switch brush motor ON and OFF.
NOTE - Both switches contain current overload cut-
outs. If tripped they will reset automatically after a few
moments. If tripping repeatedly, refer to Fault
diagnosis section.
Operation
The X46 machine is designed to clean varying widths
of escalator and will therefore only clean part of the
width at a time. After each complete pass, move the
machine across the escalator to overlap previosly
cleaned area until the full width has been cleaned.
Cleaning the escalator
• Wheel the machine to the bottom of the escalator.
WARNING - Never attempt to use the machine
at the top of an escalator.
• Fully unwind the supply cord and plug in to a
convenient socket outlet.
• Ensure that the escalator is moving away from the
machine, reverse the direction of the escalator if
necessary.
• Position the machine on the escalator such that the
rest bar situated just in front of the wheels sits on
the non-moving comb of the escalator.
• Switch on the vacuum motor, followed by the brush
motor.
• WARNING - Never start the machine without the
brushes fitted.
Stain and spot removal
For degreasing and stain removal the escalator may be
lightly hand sprayed with 'Escaclean' chemical.
IMPORTANT - DO NOT SOAK THE ESCALATOR
Dust bag replacement
• Release the two locking pins and raise the top
cover.
• Push the top edge of the cardboard collar of the
bag towards the rear of the machine until the bag is
released from the vacuum tubes, and carefully
remove the bag for disposal.
