Pay attention to loose strap ends / do not use for tying / do not knot
the suspension element / always close carabiners properly. Safety
carabiners and/or connecting elements must always be protected
against transverse and buckling loads. The fall arrester should only
be used as intended and not, for example, as a guy rope, i.e. do not
hold onto the fall arrester or pull yourself up on it (Fig. 3.8 - 3.14).
Retractable fall arresters must not be used to protect people over
bulk goods or other similar materials you can sink into (Fig. 3.15).
4.) Vertical use
To minimise a swinging fall, the anchor point should, wherever
possible, be perpendicular above the person. The clear height
required under the floor or platform is calculated based on the
individual system factors (see Fig. 4.1): Fall arrester braking
distance (∆l) + safety distance (1m) + possible expansion of the
stop system (see manufacturer's body harness instructions for use)
= H

5.) Horizontal use
The retractable fall arrester has also been successfully tested
for horizontal use and a simulated fall over the edge from there.
An edge radius of r = 0.5 mm was used for retractable fall arresters
with a lanyard made from wire rope and for retractable fall arresters
with a lanyard made from webbing (Fig. 2.2). Based on this test, the
retractable fall arrester is suitable for use over similar edges, such
as those found on rolled steel profiles, wooden beams or on clad,
rounded fascias. Regardless of this test, wherever the retractable
fall arrester is used horizontally or at an angle, and where there is
a risk of a fall over an edge, the following must always be taken
into account:
1.
A risk assessment must be carried out before commencing
work. If the fall edge is a particularly „sharp" and/or „not
burr-free" edge (e.g. un-clad fascias or sharp supported
sheet metal edges), then suitable precautionary measures
must be taken before starting work
•
A fall over the edge must be ruled out and
•
the permissible rated load of the devices for fall loads
over edges (Fig. 2.2) must not be exceeded and
•
Edge protection must be fitted before commencing work
If in doubt, we recommend contacting the manufacturer.
2.
The anchor point of the retractable fall arrester must not be
positioned below the surface on which the user is standing
(e.g. platform, flat-roof construction) (Fig. 2.2).
3.
The deflection at the edge (measured between both sides
of the lanyard) must be at least 90°.
4.
The clearance required below the edge is shown in Fig. 5.1.
5.
When using the retractable fall arrester on a type / class C
anchor device (only if approved for shared use) according to
EN 795 with horizontally mobile guide, the deflection of the
anchor device must also be taken into account when calculating
