5.19 Masonry chimney

Installing your Stûv fireplace with a masonry chimney
requires use of the chimney from the top of the fireplace
to the wall where it will connect to an approved rigid duct
that will run inside the masonry chimney (see figure on
next page).
The rigid stainless steel liner should be inserted inside the
clay liner within the masonry chimney. It is not meant to
replace the clay liner. You can use any approved liner that
complies with ULC-S635, ULC-S640, or UL-1777. Special
care should be taken to make sure that you have a solid
connection between the chimney section and the liner.
A masonry adaptor has been designed specifically for
this purpose. It attaches to the liner with 3 stainless steel
rivets and to the chimney with 3 screws.
After cementing, the connection between the chimney
and the liner should not be visible in order to insulate
the heat released through the liner from the fireplace
enclosure. As shown in the illustration on the next page,
you must install at least one 18'' length of chimney after
the chimney elbow. The uppermost part of the chimney -
where it enters the masonry chimney - must be a minimum
of 12'' from any combustible materials in the ceiling.
Notes:
If the ceiling is high enough, you can install one or more
chimney lengths directly on the fireplace before the
elbow. If you use a flexible liner, care must be exercised
when cleaning to ensure that the flexible stainless steel
liner is not dislodged in any way.
5.19 Cheminée de maçonnerie
L'installation de votre foyer Stûv avec une cheminée de
maçonnerie nécessite quand même l'installation d'une
section de cheminée au-dessus du foyer jusqu'à la
connexion avec la gaine rigide homologuée qui doublera
l'intérieur de la cheminée de maçonnerie (voir figure page
ci-contre).
Une gaine rigide d'acier inoxydable doit être installée
à l'intérieur de la gaine d'argile cuite à l'intérieur de la
cheminée de maçonnerie. La gaine rigide ne remplace
d'aucune façon la gaine d'argile cuite. Vous pouvez utiliser
toute gaine homologuée selon les normes ULC-S635,
ULCS640 ou UL-1777. Vous devez vous assurez d'avoir
une bonne connexion solide entre la section de cheminée
et la gaine. Un adaptateur de maçonnerie a été conçu
spécifiquement pour cet usage. Cet adaptateur s'attache
avec 3 rivets à la gaine rigide et avec 3 vis à la cheminée.
Une fois le mortier en place, le joint entre la cheminée et
la gaine ne devrait pas être visible afin d'isoler la chaleur
dégagée à travers la gaine de l'enclos du foyer. Tel qu'il
est montré sur la figure de la page ci-bas, vous devez
installer au minimum une longueur de 18'' de cheminée
après le coude de cheminée. Le point le plus élevé de la
cheminée – là où la cheminée entre dans la cheminée
de maçonnerie – ne doit pas être à moins de 12'' des
matériaux combustibles du plafond.
Remarque :
Si la hauteur du plafond le permet, vous pouvez installer
une des longueurs de cheminée directement sur le foyer,
avant le coude. Si vous utilisez une gaine flexible, le
nettoyage devra être effectué délicatement afin de ne
pas risquer de déplacer celle-ci.
