Note on function #3, undervoltage recognition
If the recognition of the cell number is set to „automatic" as in function #2, this is automatically calculated according
to the battery voltage after activation of the speed controller. However, the rechargeable battery must be fully charged
for this. The automatic recognition (or manual setting) of the cell number is used to calculated the corresponding
undervoltage threshold.
An undervoltage recognition is not recommended when using NiCd or NiMH batteries. Therefore, program-
me to „off".
Deep discharge will destroy LiPo batteries. We therefore urgently recommend activating an undervoltage recognition
for use of LiPo batteries. You may set the following values: 2.8 V/cell, 3.0 V/cell, 3.2 V/cell (recommended) and
3.4 V/cell.
The undervoltage recognition will adjust the speed controller down to 50% of the output (motor turns only slowly)
during operation and with the battery empty (e.g. when 3.2 V/cell is set and a 3-cell battery is used with a battery
voltage of approx. 9.6 V).
If you notice a sudden speed loss of the motor after extended operation, the undervoltage recognition has recognised
a nearly empty battery and therefore reduced output. In this case, drive to the banks immediately and terminate ope-
ration. Otherwise, the batteries are further discharged, which will cause damage to the drive battery.
Note on function #4, motor timing
This setting influences motor running characteristics (similar to early ignition of a combustion engine). You have the
following setting options: 0°; 3,75°; 7,5°, 11,25°; 15°; 18,25°; 22,5°; 26,25°.
Motor timing depends on many factors. For general settings, you may use the following values for reference based
on pin number of the motor:
Motor pin number
2
4
6 to 8
10 to 12
>14
Setting a low timing (low degree number) within the specified reference values means that the motor has a little more
torque as compared to the basic settings, and a little lower maximum speed. Setting a high timing (higher degree
number) means that the motor has a little higher maximum speed as compared to the basic settings, and a little less
torque. In both cases, the current values change however. Therefore, also observe compliance with the motor and
speed controller specifications. Also observe the temperatures of the components named in operation.
The setting matching the motor is pre-set already. For this reason, we recommend that the factory settings
not be changed.
