EN 795. Connectors must comply with EN 362. Supporting parts of
buildings can be used as secure anchor points, for example.
Anchoring on ladder rungs, window spars and heating pipes, etc. is
not permitted. The strength and position of the anchor point are
fundamentally important with regard to safety. The position of the
anchor point should therefore always be chosen so that the rope
does not run over edges when abseiling, and does not run past
sharp-edged objects or rough masonry surfaces. If an adequate
distance cannot be maintained, a suitable edge protector should be
used. In every case, a secure connection must be established
between the corresponding body-holding device and the retractable
fall arrester. Comply with the instructions for use of the other
devices used!
5.) GORDON instructions for use
This product is primarily used for safety when climbing ladders or
other structures in the context of workplace safety. The device can
however also be used for high-wire parcours or sport climbing if the
device is checked at least once a year in accordance with the
industry standard.
One end of the rope is secured to the user's equipment, while
a second person or weight prevents the formation of rope slack.
The weight must always be determined according to the rope
length before first use (Fig. 2.9). The rope forms a loop with one or
two sewn-in rings. As soon as the first user has reached the top end
of the ladder, the second user attaches the rope to the bottom end
of the ladder and starts to climb it. The first ring is then located at
the bottom end of the ladder once the second user has reached the
top end of the ladder (Fig. 2.10). A reel must be used for deflection
(EN 12278). This merely deflects the rope in order to prevent the
development of rope slack. As soon as the first user has reached
the top of the ladder and is no longer in the system, the second
user can secure themselves to the lower loop and start climbing
(fig. 2.10). It is possible to ascent (climb higher) vertically the
attachment point of the GORDON and GORDON RESCUE when
deflection points are approved in accordance with EN 795 and the
unit is properly secured to the mounting surface. It is important to
ensure that there is always enough incoming rope. The deflection
points may be exeeded by max. 0.8 m (3.7).
6.) GORDON Rescue instructions for use
The device may be used as part of a system with or in concert with
specific, recognised international standards relating to its specific
use, and the anchor point is able to withstand the loads involved.
The Rescue eyelet is also tested as an anchor point in accordance
with EN795:2012. This may only be used by one user at a time if
that user is equipped with a device which limits the dynamic forces
in the event of a fall arrest procedure to a maximum of 6 kN.
SKYLOTEC recommends labelling the eyelet using audit stickers
which clearly detail when the next inspection must be carried out.
