Construction and function
Construction:
The vortex bluff body and the sensor of the electronics are located inside the measuring
tube. The vortices produced by the bluff body are detected by the sensor and converted into
an electrical signal. This signal is conditioned by the electronics to generate the VVX output
signal.
Function:
The VVX works for flow measurement according to the measuring principle of "von Karman
vortex street": A series of contra-rotating vortices form behind a bluff body. This produces a
vortex street in the liquid as it flows.
The VVX uses this effect to measure fluid flow.
The offset and contra-rotating vortices produce local variations in pressure which are picked
up by the sensor as pressure pulses.
The pressure pulses are then counted by the device's electronic system and used to calculate
the current vortex frequency. The recorded vortex frequency is equivalent to the volume of
fluid passing through the measurement tube at that specific time.
