Obwohl sich die Maschinen der V200.0 sehr
gut bewährten, entstand Ende der 1950er
Jahre durch das gestiegene Verkehrsaufkom-
men die Notwendigkeit, eine leistungsstärkere
Weiterentwicklung der Baureihe zu beschaffen.
Im Jahr 1960 erhielt Krauss-Maffei den Auftrag
zur Entwicklung und dem Bau der V200.1.
Der größte Unterschied zur V200.0 lag in der
Verwendung von zwei Daimler-Benz-Motoren
mit einer gesteigerten Leistung von je 1350
PS. Weitere Änderungen ergaben sich bei der
Gestaltung des Daches und der Stirnfront.
Die Lokomotiven der Baureihe V200.1 waren
besonders für den Einsatz auf der Allgäubahn,
der Schwarzwaldbahn und der Vogelfluglinie
vorgesehen.
Ihre letzten Betriebsjahre verbrachten viele
der formschönen Lokomotiven im Ruhrgebiet
im angestrengten Güterverkehr.

The prototype:
Although the V200.0 engines had proved
themselves very well, it was necessary to
purchase a more powerful further development
of this series due to the increased
traffic at the end of the 1950s. In 1960,
Krauss-Maffei received an order to develop
and build the V200.1. The biggest difference
to the V200.0 was the use of two Daimler-
Benz engines with an increased performance
of 1350 PS respectively per vehicle. Further
changes have resulted at the design of the
roof and of the front side. The locomotives
of the series V200.1 were specially intended
for the use at the Allgäu Railway, the Black
Forest Railway and the "Vogelfluglinie".
Many of these shapely locomotives spent
their last years of operation in the heavy
freight train service in the Ruhr area.
