How does the toilet work?
®
Cindi
Basic is an incinerating toilet that burns waste to ashes at around 550 degrees Celsius (1200
Fahrenheit). Like an oven, it uses a heating element to heat up the chamber. All moisture and liquids
evaporate and all solid waste, together with the paper bag, is incinerated to ashes. The time needed
to reach 550 degrees depends on the amount of waste and liquids present in the chamber during
the process. Only urine, solid waste and toilet paper may be incinerated.

To use CINDI
Basic, you simply place a paper bag in the hatch located under the toilet lid. After
placing the bag, you sit down on the toilet and use it as you would any other toilet, with all your waste
going into the bag. When you are done, you simply push the handle down, which opens the hatch
dropping the bag into the incineration chamber. Once you have made sure the bag has dropped
correctly into the chamber, you close the lid and press the start button to let the toilet know that a
new bag has been added to the chamber. It is important to press the start button each time you use
the toilet, regardless of whether the programme is already running.
The programme consists of the following three phases.
Heating up
During the "HEATING UP" phase, the heating element raises the temperature of the chamber from
the starting temperature to 550 degrees. During this phase, most liquids are vaporized. The time
needed to heat the chamber is normally between 30 and 60 minutes. The time depends on the tem-
perature in the room and the chamber, as well as the amount of liquid in the chamber.
Incineration
When the temperature in the chamber reaches 550 degrees, the toilet enters the incineration phase.
The toilet maintains the temperature at around 550 degrees for 40 minutes. For each visit while a
programme is running, an additional 40 minutes are added to this phase.
Cooling down
When incineration is complete, the toilet enters the cooling down phase. The element is turned off
while the fan keeps spinning. The fan cools the toilet until the temperature of the chamber reaches
100 degrees.
