9. Operation
a) Initial operation
• Plug the round low voltage plug on the power adapter into the round socket (1) on the back
of the charger.
• Plug the power adapter into a standard mains socket.
• The display will briefly show all display segments and then, in the upper display area (8), "null"
is displayed for each of the 4 channels. The charger is now ready for operation.
b) Available operating modes
The charger offers four different operating modes:
• "CHARGE" mode
The charger starts the charging process; once the battery has been fully
charged it automatically switches to trickle charge mode.
• "DISCHARGE" mode
The battery is first discharged (to a battery voltage of approx. 0.9 V), then
charged. This operating mode reduces the memory effect in older NiCd
rechargeable batteries.
• "REFRESH" mode
The charger performs several charge and discharge cycles (number de-
pending on the condition of the rechargeable batteries). Older batteries
(or batteries that have not been used for some time) can be "refreshed" in
this way and its usable capacity increases.
• "TEST" mode
The charger tests the capacity of the battery by fully charging and then
discharging the battery. This is followed by a charge cycle.
Please note that setting the charge current too high may lead to
the battery not being fully charged, which can lead to large differences between the
measured battery capacity and the capacity indicated on the battery. We recommend
setting a maximum charge current of 1/10 of the battery capacity (for a 2700 mAh
battery this means a charge current of 200 mA).
