Use
3.1
Requirements
WARNING
Unventilated containers, cavities, channels etc. may not be entered with the
filter apparatus.
Filter apparatus may only be used when the ambient air is neither dangerous to
life nor health.
Before occupational use of this respirator, a written respiratory protection
program must be implemented meeting all the local government
requirements. In the United States, employers must comply with
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 which includes medical evaluation, training, and fit
testing.
The ambient air must contain at least 19.5 Vol% oxygen. For other
countries, observe national regulations.
The type of pollutants must be known, choose corresponding respiratory

. If the pollutants are unknown, these masks must not be used.

Dräger X-plore 5500 Use Instructions for NIOSH-approved full facepieces
Two respiratory filters of the same type from a single package must always
be used.
3.2
Attaching the Respiratory Filters
NOTICE
The following description is valid for non-capped filters, filters, cartridges, or
combined filters. For information on other X-plore respiratory filters please refer
to the respective Instructions for Use.
● Position the two respiratory filters (see fold-out page Figure B1) – The line
markings must line up! – and insert them until they lock into place (see fold-
out page Figure B2) by rotating them downwards until a stop is felt (line
marking of the respiratory filters above the end of the arrow).
The respiratory filters are removed by carrying out this sequence in reverse.
WARNING
The two-point bayonet connector must be securely attached on both sides!
The respiratory filters must be straight when locked in position.
3.3
Donning the Full Facepiece
WARNING
The sealing line between head and full facepiece must be free of hair and
foreign substances as those may cause leakages. Spectacle wearers should
wear mask spectacles.
1. Install mask spectacles if necessary
2. Open the straps as far as they will go (see fold-out page Figure C).
NOTICE
In case of extremely low temperatures, the wearer should hold his breath while
donning the mask. This prevents the full facepiece from fogging.
3. Remove the full facepiece from retrieval position.
4. Lay chin in the chinwell.
