2.
Check the chain links for sharpness and binding.
3.
Check the condition of the leather straps
4.
Perform maintenance if necessary.
5.
Inspect the workpiece for nails, staples or other embedded hard objects.
Remove any hard object you find, as it can damage the teeth. You may
wish to cut in a different spot.
6.
Position yourself so the cut portion of the workpiece will not fall on you.
7.
Check the surrounding area to make sure a falling tree or tree branch will
not injure yourself, a bystander or damage property.
CUTTING METHOD
1.
Wrap the chain around the workpiece with the teeth facing inward.
2.
Grab hold of each hand loop.
3.
Move your hands apart so each chain length is no longer parallel.
a.
You can lacerate your hands and arms on the teeth while sawing, if
your hands are too close together.
b.
The chain may jam in the cut if the cutting angle is too narrow. A
wider angle reduces the amount of surface material being cut.
4.
Keep your back straight while cutting.
5.
Avoid arm fatigue by extending your arms and pulling the pocket
chainsaw by twisting your back.
6.
The bi-directional teeth will cut on in both directions.
a.
Keep light tension on the chain. Applying too much pressure can jam
the chainsaw in the wood.
b.
Maintain a consistent pace while sawing.
7.
Continue sawing until the cut is complete.
•
The pocket chain saw may jam if the remaining amount of wood
is less than a single link's width. Remove the pocket chainsaw and
either break the wood with a sharp blow or bend the wood at the cut
until it snaps free.
