- Page 3 V1.0 POCKET CHAIN SAW 9225228 INTRODUCTION The pocket chain saw is ideal for cutting loose wood, tree branches and tree trunks up to 18 in. in diameter. The bi-directional, high-carbon teeth (cutters) cut into the wood when the chain is pulled in either direction. SAFETY WARNING! Read and understand all instructions before using this tool.

Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI). PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.

Secure and stabalize a smaller or lighter workpiece to prevent it from moving or shifting during the cutting process. Always be aware of the position of your feet and legs relative to the pocket chain saw.

Inspect the workpiece for nails, staples or other embedded hard objects. Remove any hard object you find, as it can damage the teeth. You may wish to cut in a different spot.
- Page 7 V1.0 POCKET CHAIN SAW 9225228 CUTTING LOOSE WOOD Loose wood includes any piece of wood such as a tree branch, felled tree trunk, dimensional lumber, etc., that is not attached or anchored to another object. Clear the work area to make sure any piece of wood that is cut away does not strike yourself, a bystander, an animal or property.
- Page 8 9225228 POCKET CHAIN SAW V1.0 Toss one rope over a branch. You may need to add a weight to the end of a rope to assist it going over and to pull the rope back down. You may need to twist a rope to to align the teeth for the cut. Stand off to one side holding both ropes if you are cutting a branch by yourself.
- Page 9 V1.0 POCKET CHAIN SAW 9225228 Wrap the pocket chainsaw around the tree trunk while maintaining tension on it. Walk backwards while letting the ropes slide through your hands. Maintain the tension. Stop when you are outside the impact area of the falling tree. Two people can work together to cut the tree trunk.

Apply oil to a rag or directly to the chain links. Hold the rag loosely and pull the chain through to spread the oil to both sides of the chain.
