5.4. Phase shift
After adjusting the max. flash rate at an apparent standstill of the object, you can observe the object from
another angle within the rotation cycle by using the phase shift function.
Press Shift button, and
shift of +/- 5° per increment. Pressing the Shift button will bring you back to the normal operation mode.
5.5. Slow motion effect
Slow motion effect in the direction of the movement can be achieved by slightly reducing the flash rate after
observing the freeze picture. By a slightly increased flash rate it is possible to obtain the slow motion effect in
the opposite direction of the movement.
5.6. Auto Power-Off
When the flash rate remains unchanged and/or the phase shift function unused for longer than 1 minute, the
instrument switches off automatically (during the normal operation mode with internal trigger).
This auto power-off function can be deactivated as follows: Switch off the instrument, press and hold I/O
button and then press Mode button. The display will now indicate [
function will be reactivated, when the instrument is switched off and then on again.
5.7. Attaching the instrument onto a tripod
The stroboscopes can either be hand-operated or be attached onto a tripod (Part No.: SMS-942). Use the
common screws for tripods with ¼-20UNC thread and with a max. length of 8mm.
To verify the correctness of your observation and to rule out the
possibility of observing a harmonic frequency, at which the object
seemingly comes to a standstill, you should follow these
directions: Divide the frequency by using the ÷2 key. The picture
should remain unchanged. Return to your original rate by using
the multiplier key x2 and double the flash rate by pressing this
key once again. You should see the object or marking(s) on the
object now in 2 positions.
