4.4. Rechargeable battery maintenance
The normal durability of the battery is approximately 500 charging cycles. If the battery life per cycle is
shortening, the battery should be replaced.
Please make sure that the charger will not be discharged below its safe charging level, which can possibly be
irreversible. Should it happen, however, the charger will attempt to reactivate the battery by trickle charging.
You can recognise this process, when the LED (2) at the rear side of the battery pack is at first flashing red, and
after some time it stays red continuously. If the LED continues to flash for more than 15 minutes, it indicates
that the damage of the battery is irreversible and it must be replaced.
Use the charger included in the scope of delivery only. Other charging devices can damage the
batteries permanently.
5.0 Operating Procedures (Normal Operation)
5.1 General remarks
Stroboscopes can be used to detect the rate (frequency) of a uniform, steadily repeated motion (e.g. rotation,
vibration, reciprocating speed, strokes, cycles, etc.), as well as to visualise the movements of machinery parts
in slow-motion which, due to speed, are normally not visible. In both applications, the flash frequency has to
be adjusted in order to achieve a seemingly still or a slow-motion picture.
Stroboscopes can be applied as long as the illuminance of the instrument is considerably higher than the
brightness of the environment. The distance to the object should be determined, so that it can be ideally
illuminated by the stroboscope. As a rule, the distance should between 20 cm and 50 cm.
5.2. Adjusting the flash rate
After the instrument has been switched on, the flash rate (fpm) can be adjusted by turning the adjustment dial.
The faster the dial is turned, the higher the change of the frequency. For a fine adjustment, turn the dial slowly,
increment by increment. Each increment corresponds to the respective lowest possible resolution.
For a fast adjustment, the multiplier x2 or the divider ÷2 key can also be utilised. If the measuring range is
thereby exceeded, the stroboscope flashes at the minimum or maximum frequency.
The last used frequency will be recalled when the instrument is switched on again.
5.3. Measuring the rate or rotational speed
The rate or the rotational speed (rpm) of an object is equivalent to the highest flash rate, at which the object
seemingly comes to a standstill. When measuring them, start with the highest flash rate of the instrument and
then reduce it until the observed object comes to an apparent standstill.
The fpm (flash per minute) shown in the display corresponds to the rpm or the rate of the object.
