1.11 - Setup and first use
In general, solar observation with an instrument can be very
dangerouse and provocate severe damage on eyes for exemple. This
is not the case for the Lhires Lite because:
- Only a few portion of the solar flux goes through the slit (some
micron large).
- Light is dispersed by the instrument: only a portion of total
spectrum is watched at a certain moment.
- Never look directly at the Sun but use the gnomon to point the
Lhires Lite toward the right direction.
Still, be always careful while using the Lhires Lite and ensure it is
used in normal conditions. If you dismantle it, ensure this is done by
qualified people.
On spectral lamps, be careful to use low power ones as the intensity
can be concentrated on few emission lines – do not look at high
power spectral lamp without being certain that the light emitted
won't damage your eyes.
