Position the scale index in the middle (for exemple in the yellow
area where human eye is the most sensitive).
Watch the solar spectrum... adjust focus but turning the eyepiece
holder so dark absorption lines are as sharp as possible.
Turn the scale index to move through the solar spectrum. Look for
very visible dark lines: hydrogen (Hα) in the red – a very large dark line,
sodium doublet (Na) in the yellow area, magnesium (Mg) triplet in the
green, Hβ & Hγ in the blue, etc...
To conduct miscelaneous projects (through this booklet and more),
you can change the scale. We provide a set of those but you can easily
make your own.
